Forums - Nintendo - Good riddance to everyone who does "core game tests."

Wii owners will laugh at core game tests? I wouldn't laugh to hard i i where you, cause those ''stupid companies'' will have the last laugh. Wii failed the test so they won't be making any core games for your Wii any more.

Indeed Dead Space did not sell to EAs expectations, there is no confirmed profit or loss from what I've recently researched but EA has come out to say the average HD game costs around 20 million and takes about 1.1 million copies to break even, now average states there are games that don't cost as much and some that cost more, a sports game where they're reusing a lot of assets from previous games that would likely be the lower end, a new series with its own engine and high graphical presentation would likely be the higher end.  And Dead Space without a doubt would belong in the higher end, so the argument would likely be is that .4 million enough to cover the extra costs.

I would like to see where they said that 1.1 million part. Then again, talking about avereges is pointless.

If the development costs would be let's say 20 million. Let's count 10 million for marketing and another 10 million for platform royalties. Add 5 million for random costs. The total cost of the game would be 35 million.

Lawlz 20 + 10 + 10 + 5 =/= 35

and this is why maxwell wins the old army game.

*shakes head* I really don't know if you're trying to troll or just really believe what you're saying either way it's flat out wrong and since I just informed you of this error you shouldn't make the same mistake twice right?

Talking about ''core game tests'' EA clearly will not be making the mistake twice. Just take a look at the latest NFS game for example. 360/PS3 get NFS Shift an what does Wii get? A cheap childish rip-off call NFS Nitro... So again, i wouldn't laugh to hard if i was a Wii owner.

@Maxwell: I think i've just proven my point...

Cause EA has totally not gone on record as saying they are prioritizing Wii development right? Or is it that this one game will completely change their entire view of the whole affair, and games like Rockband: Beattles edition will be completely disregarded? Maybe they will look at the market as a whole and re-assess based on that rather than one single game? Nah, can't be the last one. It would be a smart business move. Everyone knows multi-national corporations worth billions of dollars and dominate their industry only do dumb things.

I quoted myself again just so you read it this time. Your post specifically says they won't be making any core games for the Wii anymore, which is about as likely as EA no longer putting Tiger Woods on the PS3 anymore because it doesn't sell as well... and the fact you're trolling a game like its somehow inferior (cheap) and a rip-off (of what I don't really know) just because its a different game than the PS3 and 360 NFS Shift (which they changed from arcade racing to sim racing because NFS has not sold that well in the past few years across all platforms) it just leads me to believe you're simply here to disrupt discussion.

Dead Space: Extraction is at 83 on Metacritic right now. Not bad quality for a "test" game.

Infact by review's it's of higher quality than Wii Sports Resort, Muramasa:TDB, Mario Kart Wii, Mad World, Wii Fit, House of the Dead: Overkill and The Conduit.

So what is your definition of a "great game"?

Shouldn't you be wanting these "test" games to do well, so more quality games come to Wii?

No we want quality games to come to Wii, reviews mean nothing, Wii Sports resort is an awesome games, regardless of how its reviewed

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

I hope you're right, I hope they realise that people aren't going to pay $50 for a 'test' and until such time as they make a legitimate effort with a game that people want Wii owners will continue to ignore their products.

In the end these people are just going to buy other games on the Wii and the only people losing out will be EA.

I will laugh whenever i want to... because you see, in 2010, i already have a kind of very, very nice "want list", full of REAL efforts and great games, not "tests"...

FFCC Crystal Bearers, Fragile, Sin and Punishment 2, Red Steel 2, No More Heroes 2, Monster Hunter 3, the Grinder, Lost in Shadow, Epic Mickey, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Metroid Other M, and maybe a new Zelda, too... and i don't even mention Wiiware and DS... and of course, all the unannouced projects so far...

The year hasn't even started yet, and my budget is already saturated: there's maybe still room for two or three other awesome titles, not more...

So, if EA or others make average to allright efforts, but these games don't appeal to me, why should i feel the need to buy their games to "deserve" their support? They want my money? Then they have to show me something really awesome, and with a really good quality/price... otherwise, my money will go elsewhere: the best 1st party and 3rd party titles are already waiting for me...

Thing is, i don't need more than 50 AAA games each year, because i couldn't afford them, just like most other people with a "normal" budget and a real life...

And if you think the 3rd parties don't see any opportunities with "core" games on Wii, think about this: the PS360 market is already saturated with such games, so much that everyone in the industry has been afraid of this holiday season, just because Modern Warfare 2 will be a (too) huge competitor... the result? Many AAA titles delayed in 2010...

While on Wii, an original and good quality "core" game can easily stand out from the crowd, and risks are limited, due to lower dev costs... Sega knows this better than most, by example... so, what's your "point" now, Mr Smartman?

The reviews are a fraud.  I  mean the game has HUGE bugs... that outright kill you in places.

Most likely the people playing it didn't put the time in to actually throughly play it.

Oh common... Im fairly certain tghat reviewers would have pointed that part out... I have a feeling that you are seriously overexagerating again, like most times. The game got overall great reviews and it still bombed bigtimes. It didnt have a massive advertisement campaign, true, but on the other hand Maddworld had a pretty decent one and still barely managed to reach 300k in 6 months.

The truth is that core gamers migrated away from the Wii, and launching a new core IP on it is almost allways suicidal. And for Dead Space E it was allmost like a new IP considering that even on the HD twins it did fairly mediocre numbers tough far better then this.

@ 68soul: yeah but the problem is that mpost of those upcomming games are mostly Japanese and other like Red Steel 2, The Grinder and Epic Mickey still have tons to proove. They either come from failure developers ( TC & RS2) or they have some massive goals to achioeve ( EM).
