Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Visceral Games:"Shame no one bought DS:Extraction, Wii support reconsidered

dead space fans were put off my console choice
core wii gamers were put off by genre
lightgun fans put off by price point

who exactly are they selling this game to?

This is the perspective. I couldn't have posted it better.

I'm tired of waiting for the result of the "tests" that the publishers made. If you want to try something, try a thing that have a REAL chance of win.

1.^^  This

2. To the best of my memory, the EA exec who said this was a test said they will see how much this game sells over a period of 6 months. I understand his disappointment, but I believe the Visceral dev jumped the gun.

Why is this a surpirsed?

Muramasa: The Demon Blade 130k sales
Mad World 310k sales
cursed mountain 50k sales
The Conduit 270k sales
No More Heroes 470k sales
Little Kings Story 120k sales

I know this isn't all of them, but its some of the 3rd party core games for the wii, the most successful being 470k sales, and that's from a legendary developer and a game that appeals to anime kids who probably have a wii.

You knew there was little to no market for non first party core games on the wii and I'm not sure what they were expecting. Dead space was successful on the hd consoles because that is where that audience is, why they did this I'll never know. I guess it was an attempt to make a lot of money off their existing Ip with a cheap game to produce, but seriously, lame marketing didn't help you out either.

Reviews don't matter if your user base has been proven to not buy core 3rd party games. Stick to making wii fit spinoffs and you'll be rolling in cash EA, stop making a fool of yourself.

Dead Space WASN'T successful on the HD consoles according to EA, and you can't blame marketing on this. I think Extraction could have a real chance to beat the original one (considering X360 and PS3 separate SKUs) much faster if there's any marketing and a valid price point (USD 50 is EXPENSIVE for a short light gun game with a little-to-zero replay value). But the price will drop and the legs may do it reach the "older brothers".

Good core-market games sell on the Wii. That is to say, if they're marketed and developed anything more than half-heartedly.

"'Casual games' are something the 'Game Industry' invented to explain away the Wii success instead of actually listening or looking at what Nintendo did. There is no 'casual strategy' from Nintendo. 'Accessible strategy', yes, but ‘casual gamers’ is just the 'Game Industry''s polite way of saying what they feel: 'retarded gamers'."

which games would that be? There' don't appear to be any. I said non first party.

There are so many flaws in your post it's hilarious.

No More Heroes from a legendary developer? Try "a developer known for making epic flops". No More Heroes is his best selling game EVER.

And Dead Space on the HD consoles succesful? Not really... According to EA, the game was a disappointment sales-wise.

Also, nice cherrypicking. There are tons of good third party games that have sold well on the Wii. This is a sales site, so there's no excuse to be oblivious to them.

Messageboards everywhere exploded with negative comments by Wii owners when it was announced this game was an on-rails game, and by PS360 owners when it was announced this game was only on the Wii. What did they expect?

Huh ...? I remember them complaining about piracy but at 1.5 million not counting PC sales I think it did alright. Maybe it didn't meet their expectations but it must have been successful if they're continuing the franchise.

Where did this sense of entitlement come from that makes them believe their product "deserves" to sell X amount of copies? The video game market needs to realize people won't eat up whatever they throw out just because they say it's what consumers want.

DS: Extraction looks good, but an on-rails shooter just doesn't appeal to me enough to shell out $50 when I have both time and monetary budgets to deal with.

Executive 1: Hey Bob, we just received the latest numbers for the sales of our Wii game.

Bob: You mean the game we sunk very little money into, regarded as a massive liability, routinely insulted the userbase for, and refused outright to advertise in any way, shape or form?

Executive 1: That'll be her.

Bob: How does it look? Mad, mad monies?

Executive 1: Hmm..it would seem it hasn't sold at all! Its almost like the users are completely unaware of its existence.

Bob: Or perhaps they are finally upset enough with the lack of effort we are putting into these games that they are outright ignoring us.

Executive 1: That can't be it, obviously the userbase for the Wii is to casual for our amazing game, we should stop trying to win them over and instead continue to insult their intelligence by stating that "tests" have been failed, and that we wont work with them any more.

Bob: Sounds good to me!
