Forums - Nintendo - Visceral Games:"Shame no one bought DS:Extraction, Wii support reconsidered

I've actually heard from people that it's buggy as hell. For example it will cut away when monsters are still there and they will kill you with you being unable to shoot them.

With two RE rail shooters and 2 HOTD rail shooters... why should anyone care about a glitched game.

This is becoming a running theme on the Wii. The Quality to sales connection on the Wii isn't as strong as on the other systems. If many Wii owners don't read reviews, all they have to go by is their eyes. "Ooh, Sonic and Mario in the SAME game, at the Olympics?! What game can be better than that?!" It's hard to overcome that on the Wii. At least thats the way it seems.

The orginal Dead Space failed to sale on the HD systems  and that game received critical acclaim from game journalist and also had high scores. There were also advertisements and a movie. Yet no one,at EA, complained about the sales. Nor did they threaten to stop supporting the HD system because of this.

The HD game sold 1.5 million across two platforms, both with far less users than the Wii.  How much did this game sell on the Wii.  The HD games hardly failed compared to this game.

That's across two plaforms with different architechture which increased the cost of the game. Yet it did not sale a million units on either one alone. Secondly, on rail shooters never sell very well on any system. This inculdes the hugely successful PS2 and the PSX. Thirdly you are comparing a third person shooter that was not only advertised but had a anime movie released before the game came out. Nothing like that happened for DSE.

I do not understand your last sentence. "The HD games hardly failed compared to this game."

Except the Wii.

Rail shooters sell well on the Wii.  I mean the Wiimote is built fror it.

It's just... they have to be good.

Actually combined PS3 and X360 Dead Space sold more than 1.5 million so far and that is really good sales. Dead Space also sld about 370k opening week on X360 and PS3 which is also really good. DS:E only sold 50k so far on Wii.

No actually it is not. That's 1.5 Million on two platforms. While other games have sold a Million or more on each individual platform. Dead Rising for the Xbox 360 sold over a million units and The port of  The House of the Dead 1 & 2 sold over a million units on the Wii.

If all you have to make an argument is to compare a third person shooter to a light gun game then I do not really believe that you actually have an argument. Light gun games rarely sale extremely well while third person shooters routinely do.

According to the numbers that float around this site, you only need to sell 500k copies in total to make money on average. If a game makes money it sold really well. The game you mentioned also sold well.

I was refuting the point that Dead Space did not sell well.

What are you arguing?

500,000?  Not for an HD game... unless it's a particularly cheap one.

EA so far has had two failed Deadspace games... (by their own admition).

It seems the IP just isn't what they think it is.

There is some problem with the distribution. I cant find the game in any store.

MY ZELDA COLLECTION

I'm deeply concerned that this means there may not be any more rail shooters on the Wii.

But seriously, at least EA couldn't have lost much money. It was a rail-shooter designed to re-use a ton of art assets from the underperforming HD game.

Time to give up on the Dead Space franchise. Neither mainstream HD gamers nor mainstream Wii gamers care about this IP.

It's not surprising... the first game wasn't what everybody said it was critically.

I could care less about the game and the threats 3rd parties make about the Wii. I buy games that I think will be good according to my taste. I could care less if someone put so much time and effort into a game and it doesn't sell. I buy the ones I want, that's my choice as a consumer. I didn't buy a Wii to play shooters, i bought it because Nintendo knows how to make games, and every once in awhile a 3rd party will make a gem.

Nintendo should require every boxart to have a picture of Mario.

Yeah I pretty much agree.  However, this is why many see it as a secondary console.  Nintendo can only do so much alone, and they don't get enough 3rd party support for such a leading console.  That was my mindset, knowing how the gamecubes history went.  It's funny.  The Wii has gotten more support I guess, but I think it's similar with great Ninty stuff and a few good 3rd party games.  Except, the Wii didn't fall off, the controller innovation prevented that.

wow didn't expect this thread to still be going.
