This thread proves that most people don't have a bloody idea about what epic means:
–adjective Also, ep⋅i⋅cal.
1. noting or pertaining to a long poetic composition, usually centered upon a hero, in which a series of great achievements or events is narrated in elevated style: Homer's Iliad is an epic poem.

not everyone has the same expectations, you're generalizing.

This! An Epic is a very long narrative usually in the form of a poem not a theme or an emotion.

so wheres the "epic" stuff that i was hyped about? This is a letdown, but i'll still rent the game.

The article is not the game, and you should try reading it. Did you think those pics on the post were actual size?

this is why you're annoying. you jump to conclusions, and your opinion is always right. For the record, I read the article, i saw the pictures and i came up with my own opinion, if you don't like it, ignore it and move along.

I could say the same about you, but I won't because I try to be polite (unless I'm in a bad mood, but that's more psychological), and I've admitted I'm wrong plenty of times. Or did you not read those times I've admitted?

All you had to do was clarify your statement. It doesn't state what it is that is letting you down. Don't blame others when your statement leaves room for misinterpretation (and I've clarified statements of my own when I see I've done that).

Wait what? Somebody posts a fact and it is generalizing? Also what does expectations have anything to do with his post. He was arguing toward the true meaning of "Epic" and whether the people posting in the thread knew what the correct meaning or not. He wasn't arguing against anybody's opinon on the game.

Okay NOW all of you go make predictions.

Yeah, the desription of the game does fit an epic. If people had different expectations, that does not change the definition.

heroic; majestic; impressively great: the epic events of the war.

That's my definition.

Not really, when their basis for their expectations are a screenshot and a title, both of which have very little to do with determining whether or not something is an Epic. Also notice how these people use it as an "Adjective" and not a "Noun". If they knew the correct definition, they would use it in the correct way, and as the correct form of speech. You can argue toward the language evolving, and new word meanings, but as of right now there is very little basis and until made official for 'epic' having the definition 'some' ascribe it to having. Whatever though, I accept that linguistic values change and the meaning of words change so I guess anything can be classified as 'correct' taking that into consideration.  What you posted is very correct though. There is only one expectation you can have as of now, with the specific definition, and every other "expectation" will is actually unqualified a epic unless it has some connect where it can be described as such. If it doesn't, they must find another word or officially change the meaning of the word in order for the statement to fit.

No, defintions are not up to the individual. Cultures can change them over time (why we have archaic definitions), but until then you take them all, and if something fits one sense, it's an epic.

It seems nitpicky, but people are entitled to their opinions, not to their own facts. As in you can find the game isn't impressive, but it still is an epic.

Actually, there is a good reason to make sure the definition is clear: Epic Movie.

I'm reminded of when Diablo III was first unveiled.

Ah well, I'm loving the work behind the game so far. Seems very ambitious. I hope the team gets everything they need to create a work that they're fully satisfied with.

Still... can't wait.
