DQX is needed lol

But seriously, there is nothing new there. After all it's Japan, it's a handheld territory.

no Ps3 or Wii needs a GAME with "LEGS"

games with "LEGS" are the true system sellers.

Pokemon, GTA (back in PS2 days), Monster Hunter, Wii Fit & so on

So...NSMBWii?

And Ps3................FFXIII might have legs.

I think anyone expecting PS3 sales to stay above 30k was fooling themselves....

and yeah, stop being so emo Darthdevidem01 ;)

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

trust me you don't want the japanese gaming market to die.....it would have effects unforseeable on the industry

If the effects are unforeseeable, why do you fear them? Unforeseeable effects can be good or bad.

Japan's been having economic problems for the last 2 decades, as well as a stagnating and aging population.

They had an advantage in the early days of the market (due to the influence of the developers and publishers), but we're starting to see their serious decline. The hardware sales are just another indication of this. It saddens me, since I love Japanese games, but it's happening.

Plus, it's a handheld market. The 2 best selling systems of all time in Japan are the Gameboy and DS. Best selling game is Pokemon Red and Blue on the Gameboy. Self-explanatory really.

Did everyone forget about that cat 1 typhoon that hit Wednesday and Thursday? That probably affected sales, just like I thought.

Woah, really? I was not aware of this. If this is so, then I definitely state this as the reason why PS3 nor Wii surpassed 30k sales in Japan this week.

Very well said. This is exactly what is happening with the Japanese gaming industry, and I wouldn't be surprised if it will be twice as bad in a couple of years.

PS3 and Wii neck and neck last week? Heh, good news for the PS3. Every week that the Wii doesn't outsell the PS3 by at least 10k improves the PS3's chances of selling more consoles in Japan in 2009.

Currently playing: Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, NBA2k11, Metal Gear Solid, Picross 3d

A typhoon?

so next week PSWii should be over 30K again hopefully

@SamuelIrSmith

I meant they will be so bad, a dark cloud will be covering them.....just like the dark side clouds the force!

@forest-spirit

FF13 won't have legs, no FF games do

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

Why is it Japan has truly embraced handhelds over home consoles?...I mean, in other markets the DS still beats other systems just like in Japan, but it´s not like that has severely stopped people from buying home consoles....it´s more like "hey the DS and/or PSP is a good system to go along with a PS3/Wii/360/whatever"..while in Japan they really see handheld as a complete substitute.

Some have gotten their hopes too up. it wasn't many weeks ago when almost everyone anticipated that PS3 sales are at most something like 60k (in Japan) when Slim launches and after couple of weeks from that they are below 30k. PS3 has held pretty well. Even overall Japan sold this week a lot more hardware than last year at the same time.
