Forums - Sony - GT5 can be released anytime PD wants..

There seems to be three schools of thought here.

One is that the game has been in development for far too long and needs to be released.

One is that GT5 is going to be immaculate and cure Herpes and so they can take as much time as they need.

And some feel like regardless of whether or not the game is going to be great, they should release it because its poor customer service to keep players waiting this long.

Are you sure we aren't talking about a Blizzard game here? Ziiiiing

I heard that DUKE NUKEM had been licensed by PD as a celebrity driver.

Nice comment there at the end xD Yeah, Diablo 3 is still my most wanted game for the PC in the past 8 years, so yeah, I understand were most people come from, but to keep complaining about it isn't going to do any good. PD, as blizzard, delivers when it comes to their games, so I have trust that GT5 will be a great game, just as D3 will be too.

@damndl0ser

I understand why most GT fans are pissed off at PD about the long development time, but as a GT fan to another GT fan, isn't it true that PD took roughly the same amount of time developing GT3 to GT4? Did you feel pissed off then? Is just an honest question, because at the time I didn't feel pissed at them, neither do I feel now.

Was I as pissed off then as now?  Frankly no, but I don't recall them stating over and over and over for over a year or 2 that they could release the game at anytime either.  Correct me if im wrong.

Actually they stated that GT4 was ready to be released in 2003, but they backed down and gave us GT4 prologue because their main objective of 700+ cars wasn't being met at the time. I'm going to search for a link, it's around GTplanet.net somewhere.

These we're the best links I could come up with. In 2003 was set to be released in christmas time, but then got delayed for another year, which resulted in a prologue version in 2004 which was originaly planed to be japan only. Then in 2004 EU and NA got the prologue version as well, but had to wait yet another year for the full release of the game.

I remember at that time being sad that GT4 was taking up so long to be released, especially since they had already released GT3 in the PS2, so 4 years in the making of a game with the same technology, wasn't making much sense, until the features for the game were announced, and it had tripled almost everything GT3 had offered.

*****EDIT*****

What was the point of those links?  We know that the game was delayed that wasn't my point.  The point I was making was about them continually saying that the game was ready to be released and then not releasing.  Sigh....

Neither of those links stated that GT4 was ready to be released at anytime?  We are well aware of the GT delays, that was never in doubt.

They didn't but they did point out delays in the game, from 2003 to 2005. Isn't it the same situation as it is now with GT5? Word play from delay to "ready to be released at anytime" is just semantics, both were used without any kind of official release date, so it's mostly us fans getting our hopes up for the game without official confirmation.

Also I never said that this situation didn't bother me, it does as I've stated before, because I rather would've liked this game to come sooner, but knowing PD, they are just making sure that the game will be as any bit good as they want. Most people probably will be annoyed, but me, afters years of having to wait a long ass time for games, especially S-E to come to EU land, by now I consider myself to be a more patient kind of gamer which gives the benefit of the doubt to the developers.

I am actually a very patient person.  I don't have a problem waiting on the game that was never my problem.

There is a very big difference in delaying a game (GT4) and continually saying that GT5 could be releasing at anytime.  It basically gives the consumer a false hope of the game being released sooner than PD knows it will.

That's isn't even remotely fair. If a company pours their resources to make a game, whether it's a side project or a full iteration of their main series, is still considered a game.

I've mentioned Tourist Trophy a lot in past threads that didn't have anything to do with GT5, because to me it still is the best Motorbike game ever released, and it has the depth and sheer driving passion than any GT game has had. Sure, PD has made some bad decisions in time management, but to say that they have released 3 underwhelming projects, it's just your point of view.

To me, both GT PSP, TT and GT5:P were worth the time, because as a racing fan, they were all quality games, even if they don't actually compare to a full GT game, they still encompass the view of racing games that PD has.

I'll be honest and say that I would have liked for PD to release GT5 earlier, but I also know to give credit when it's due and give the developers the benefit of the doubt, because to me and to the people who like and care about PD games, they have delivered so far.

My point is that they were distractions to the development of GT5. When GT5: Prologue was getting worked on for an online update in July 2008, Yamauchi proclaimed that all of PD had stopped working on GT5 to get the update out. Then we have his comments that GTPSP was supposed to come out after GT5, signaling that it later on took up too much of PD's time and probably away from GT5. Do you really think this stop and start approach to developing is productive to any of their projects? Most importantly though, how has this approach been beneficial to GT5?

This is why I don't think it's right to use an excuse that PD has released three other games in the meantime, because that's done nothing but hold up the more wanted project in GT5.
