Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo is gaming, Sony/Microsoft are questionable.

@caio: Thank you for your list of (upcoming) games. We just had a thread about how PS3 owners don't buy exclusives.

When you take a look at the game sales, you may notice that Wii has a number of core games that obviously have worked as a reason to buy the system better than any game on PS3. And as you mentioned, Mario Kart Wii have been the primary core game this gen to drive sales of the systems.

*sigh* Nintendo are selfish really :S,they make so much money, and still dont want to build a HD console, and theres more,it doesnt even put some decent shooters in it...Always Mario,Zelda or w/e...just make another revolutionary franchise ffs with all those money...Nintendo will always be like that, they will make consoles for profit only, without risking loosing money,or trying to actually step up gaming technology...i feel sad that is happening..Sony and Microsoft on the other hand invests in new franchises, they invest alot in a new console...people just cant seem to understand that, and they choose Nintendo just because its cheaper than...everything...those are the main reasons Nintendo are being on top atm.
I also think the crisis is helping Wii alot, without the crisis it's sales would probably be 20% less..or even more

"So yeah they are adding 100 people and losing 1. I honestly think they could do something different and not lose the one."

@dharh Despite me disagreeing with a lot of what you say, this I totally agree with. Nintendo CAN keep and expand their core fanbase. I think they should launch a special strategy to do this. Maybe they are thinking about doing something, who knows.

The video game sector has been a tremendous avenue for money in the business sense. Not only has gaming become popular, but it is approaching profits that the movie and music industry would love to have. Nintendo created the Wii as a result of the gaming industry shrinking by only catering to the 18-35 year old male demographic.

I have some problems with that above article, the one you wrote.  Um, if I am somehow wrong and you didn't write it, please source.

Anyway, the main problem I have is that the industy wasn't shrinking.  In fact, it's grown for the last several generations.

Yep, it's the "nature" of the games : some sell a lot, other not, regardless of their quality.  It's sad when you see games like Valkiria Chronicles or LBP selling nothing compared to Halo.

is Gears2 better than KZ2 ? Hell no, anyway it's opinable, the beauty of taste and opinion. But Gears sells more and more.

GTA ?  I prefer LBP to GTA, but GTA sells like bread, and LBP had a slow start.

For the Wii is a bit different story, 'cause the motion controller is the key factor, not the pure quality of its games or the nature. It's a different market, so different that making comparison in sales numbers could be misleading.  my opinion.

It's not only a question of money.  Wii is focusing more on casual gamers and "non gamers" too, people who never played videogames before, using Wii as a light fitness machine/education machine, and not like a Games console.   This is the main reason.  Anyway, PS3 is now selling great, more than Wii(apart from the latest week-->Wii price-cut).

I think - think - that it was in relation to the growth of the overall population. I could be wrong on that point, though, as I have never seen Nintendo's presentations myself.

And people say Nintendo don't spin.

Seriously? Relative to the growth of the world's population? Considering no more than 5% of the Earth's population even play games....

@dharh: So, the problem was the games? Not HDD and online or the lack of them?

I'm the opposite to you, with Wii, Nintendo won me back. And, they plan to get you back too.

Nintendo couldn't take another direction with Wii than it took. It's supposed to be as different as possible from the HD consoles, while having as much features as possible with them, because otherwise their strategy might fail somewhere.

@caio: Yes, they are incremental innovations. Incremental innovations aren't usually considered as innovations because of the small benefits they offer. Revolutionary innovations, however, are, because they offer big benefits.
