You fail to realize that consequence and risk are two different things......the ps3 and 360 are a natural progression of console systems of years past , the wii isnt. It tried to innovate how we play console games , while the 360/ps3 only focused on adding a new shiny coat of paint in the graphics department with ZERO innovation to gaming.

Sony did not risk for the sake of innovation......they are just paying the consequenses of their poor business decisions thats it.

Xbox LIVE isn't innovative?

LBP isn't innovative?

HEAVY RAIN isn't innovative?

Project NATAL isn't innovative?

I could go on & on.... I agree nobody innovated quite like Nintendo did, but to say Microsoft and Sony offer "ZERO innovation to gaming" is irrational...

I meant in respect to their consoles strictly.....which only adds XBL from your list.

Developers develop games , not sony or MS.

sony makes the games inhouse. and sony developed the cell, and wand and the camera technlogy inhouse.

so microsoft developed xbox live and natal.

also natal was bought by microsoft.

its now being fund and developed by the team they bought the technology from.

even so, it's marked as theirs.

Well sony did bring the ps eye and eye toy

Aren't those the same thing? Or is one for the PS2 and the other for the PS3? ? ?

EyeToy = PS2

PlayStationEye = PS3

you're obsessed with playstation. stop liking playstation so much. like nintendo more.

Total Championships: Nintendo - 4, Sony - 2, Atari - 1, Microsoft - 0, Sega - 0

You know why their arrogance is coming back? Because it can. Their sales have exploded since the price cut/slim launch.

And that statement is true. I know, you're in denial but it is. Nintendo takes FAR less risks than Sony/MS. This is why they release their consoles for profit from launch. They aren't risk takers. Why not? Gaming is all they have. If they screw up their gaming business, they screw the whole company.

gee these people have no respect for engineers =(.

Sony doesn't develop games? O_o

No sony as a console company publishes....innovation comes from the mind not the wallet.

So.....who develops the MLB: The Show/NBA The Inside series'? And, correct me if I'm wrong, but if Sony OWNS the developer, isn't that company considered Sony Computer Entertainment?

Maybe i've got mixed up on it then, but are you saying that losing $200 per console on launch... Wasn't a risk to Sony or PlayStation?

And i dont get why everyone keeps bringing up innovation.

As i said in this post, Jack never mentioned innovation. He just said Sony take more risks and still deliver. Which is true.

Risks are decisions made with unforseen outcomes, whether good or bad.

We all know what would happen to a console priced at $600, therefore it wasnt a forseen outcome and therefore it is not a risk.

"In an industry that's certainly had its challenges this year, we like to say that the environment where PlayStation wins is best for this industry. We have a brand that can play on a worldwide basis, young and old, male and female, where our competition tends to be relegated to either select regions or to select consumer audiences. ...We don't have unlimited money, we cater to a more mass market audience. I think we're willing to take a little bit more risk than a competitor like Nintendo is and ultimately we deliver to the masses on a worldwide basis and that's what we've done for the last 15 years." - SCEA boss Jack Tretton

That's what got to me. I don't care that he said Playstation is the best for the industry. That can be argued, but REALLY? Jack you must be on something because the last time I checked Nintendo is where you got a lot of your ideas from. Was dual screens not risky enough for you? Or maybe it was TILT SENSORS! I wonder.

Your thoughts.

Sony launched the PS3 at $600.

PS3 at the time took ~$800 to make.

Losing $200 per console is a pretty big risk...

It would help your arguement if he was talking about financial risk and not risks to market to the masses.

OT:

Crazy stuff but I'm really done with going "ZOMG they said that!" cause that's how it's always worked, Sony boasts, MS boasts, and Nintendo boasts, just the way each does it is different and it's old now :\

Nobody knew what would happen, people just had a prediction of what would happen.

And the main thing im talking about is taking the risk of losing $200 per console on launch. What it could have done to Sony themselves if PS3 had taken off like the PS2 or Wii.
