Forums - Nintendo - Sony makes RIDICULOUS comment

Releasing a console to the market that can't compete graphically with the other two is a much bigger risk than any other taken in any console generation considering that the first thing that you perceive about a game is the graphics. Motion controls of course were another big risk, a portable with two screens and a touch screen was another big risk. Sony may have sold at a loss even with a very high price but they were an already established name that lead the market for two generations with a console that is filled with features, If N's idea didn't ring with the general public it would have been a complete disaster, cheap components or no.

I really don't know if I should say that Nitendo took a risk, I honestly think that they were pretty clever. When I heard about Wii, I already knew that I would not buy one and I am still not buying one.By the way I am a playstation Fan. But let us think about it, anyone of us that was around in the SNES era who are now PS fan there is no way we will get back to Nintendo, maybe XBOX, but no Nintendo cause most of the PS fans I know think that Nintendo is for kids. So Nintendo did not have to focus that much on graphics because he had already lost most of his followers. They had to conenctrate their products for the new generation to come. I honestly think that they outsmarted both Microsoft and SONY who keept on making console and games for that same 2000 generation when Nintendo concentrate on the 2006 generation. They oustsmarted both Microsoft and SONY in my opinion

Trying to disrupt an industry is always a very big risk. And Playstation gamers weren't the only old gamers. The Wii was meant to attract new gamers from all generations, but also old Nintendo/Sega/Atari/Computer gamers who got out of gaming in the 16-bit era or the PS1 days. Nintendo took a huge risk, they were smart when they did it, but it was still a huge risk. I think few companies could pull off what Nintnedo did successfully.

I LOVE ICELAND!

Nintendo takes more risks creatively.

Sony takes more risks financially.

Pretty much the gist of it, no?

Both companies took on a lot of risk this generation. Nintendo by going with a radical new controller approach, Sony by trying to sell a gaming console for a ridiculously high price.

Just pointing something out that I've noticed.

A few people here said that Sony could take a risk with the PS3's high price because of the massive success of the PS2 while Nintendo had to make sure not to fuck up because of the "failure" which was the Gamecube.

Didn't the GCN make more profit for Nintendo than the PS2 for Sony?

Sony is full of shit. What else isn't new?

Id say Nintendo and their Motion control was pretty a big risk. I still don't see how it can sell so much. But i think that article was about the financial part of risk taking, if im not mistaken.

Sony launched the PS3 at $600.

PS3 at the time took ~$800 to make.

Losing $200 per console is a pretty big risk...

I thought you didnt like people trash talking the opposition.....?

Eh?
