Forums - Sony - PSP-Go (30,000 First Week Sales) A Flop ?

edit: remember, this isn't a new platform launch. this is just an alternative to the psp and a nice experiment for sony on digital distribution. this is not a dslite, this is not a dsi. the dslite was the psp2000 and the dsi is the 3000. this is just another venue for sony to make money. its designed to be pure profit.

You are all forgetting the money earned on games, periferals(they're all proprietary) and the like.

I expect psp to be hugely profitable for sony while the ps3 continues to rise.

I did get GTP on umd though and a new 3000 as well. I just want my favorite games in disc format.

spent 400$ on the go though in games :)

tough call. It flopped in terms of sales, but it's a nice payday for sony.

I dont know any stores in my local area that has received the PSP Go.

Kinda hard to use that "not a new platform launch" idea, when the PS3 Slim wasn't a new platform either.  The PSP Go is a completely re-design platform, and it cost quite a bit of mullah to get launched...considering the current state of Sony's finances, they need these things to move...PSP and PS2 have been covering for the lags in PS3 financial performance.

Where do people get that it was a nice "payday" for sony...surely more than 3-4 million went into its development...also "legs and word or mouth" mean nothing if its crippled and word of mouth is that your better off getting the old one.

I really think that sony only shipped very limited quanitities.

I personally bash the PSP Go A LOT! But, I just like being hard on things. Look at it this way. Sony is the only company to have entered the gaming digital distribution market. They are taking the first step, and thus are ahead of the competition. With games being more and more expensive to make, and consumers willing to pay less and less, I think DD will see the day where it will be an important market in gaming, ever more so than the DLC we've been seeing this gen. If none of you have noticed, Sony has been putting loads of money in a lot of new tech this gen, bluray, Cell CPU, DD, PSN, motion controllers, etc. By next gen, they might be ahead of the other major console companies. I'm not saying MS nor Nint is not investing in new tech, but I think they are investing less than Sony is.

Maybe it's because retailers ordered limited quantities.

Anyone can guess. It takes no effort to throw out lots of predictions and have some of them be correct. You are not and wiser or better for having your guesses be right. Even a blind man can hit the bullseye.

Its so vastly different.

The slim doesnt cost more than the phat. the phat is being discontinued. The slim IS the PS3, whereas the PSPGo is a product that has completely different functions.

Look, the PSPGo is not a redesign, its a NEW design. Its just a new option for people interested in portable gaming. If it were being branded as the new PSP the 300 would be discontinued and no more UMD games would be coming out.

i dont expect sales to be much of anything unless sony drops the price to $199 and soon. i love my psp-go, but it needs that magical $199 price and now.
