Forums - Gaming - GAMESPOT or IGN? which site gives better game reviews other than these?

My two most trusted gaming review magazines/Sites.......... CVG and Gamesmaster UK

both IGN and Gamespot are shall i say "not confrontational enough"

too many big AAA 360 games get the same score as big AAA ps3 games if they release close together........... they want to keep both parties happy. (not enough purity for me)

@ Slimebeast.
eurogamer is always giving 7/10

I love them.

"If you've stuck with us this long and not simply rushed out to buy it (which we suggest you do before the weekend is out), then you should have the distinct impression that it's the kind of must-have game that has Game of the Year contender written all over it. There's so much we haven't even talked about, that's the crazy thing, 3000 words in. The prospect of things like Vampire hunting (or, even being a vampire) is just the stuff of gaming legend, or being the ultimate warrior or assassin for hire. Frankly, there's way too much stuff to talk about in the confines of a review - it's one of those games you've got to experience for yourself."

Which game?

I've heard others say the same.

I'm surprised, I thought the game in that review would get like a 7 from them. I felt the biggest problem with it was that you could do everything in one playthrough- be the Archmage and the Listener, the Grey Fox and the Fighter's Guild Champion, the Champion of Cyrodiil and Madness Lord, a mass murderer and a Knight of the Nine.

Interesting point. I never much thought of it that way. I guess I kind of 'split my imagination' sort of, separate them into different stories in my mind, or maybe a combination of just a couple (champion + Fighter's guild). Anyway, it's a rational criticism u have but this never bothered me. If it was another game though, I might be freaked out and cry 'unrealistic!', if you could do all that in the same adventure.

You've heard others say the same about what, btw?

Not that I didn't like Oblivion, of course. It's one of my favourite PS3 games, I thought it was immersive, had tons of value and was overall brilliant. I just saw that one major flaw with the premise of the game. Ignoring, of course, little things like the AI. Also, I felt it was a little bit...overdone, the whole game. For example, the weapon vendors. Did you ever actually buy a weapon from a vendor? Because in all my playtime from level 1 to 27, I didn't. I also never bought any armour.

And for all of your love of Oblivion, you don't recognise that line?

"I saw a mudcrab the other day. Nasty creatures"

"I've heard others say the same"

or

"How are you?"

"I've heard others say the same"

It's one of the very common lines in Oblivion, as well as the mudcrab one and Daedra worship in the Summerset Isles, which one of the Daedra worshippers (I think it was Clavicus Vile) was very worried about. That's the AI thing I was talking about. But it's harmless, and amusing. Like how the beggars suddenly get posh accents when you ask them about "rumours".

Kantor, you're nitpicking about the largest single player game in human history. Of course there's gonna b minor flaws if you have thousands of features in a game.

The AI overall was very good. It's actually mostly a smart AI, NPC actions aren't just run through scripts like in other games. The dialogu glitches are well-known, many people have laughed at and commented them because they're comical. I wasn't bothered about them at all, i found them funny whenever they happened. Btw, I don't recognize that particular line, and your quotes aren't correct - such blatantly flawed dialogues like your second one -"how are you?" -"I've hear others say the same" are very rare.

Ahh.. btw, i noticed now u agree that it's all harmless and amusing.

I agree the weapon vendors didnt have much useful stuff to offer, but I actually bought a couple of armor pieces and some arrows early in the game lol.

Oblivion is a masterpiece.

ign is good.

never read gamespot reviews but ign can suck. gametrailers is much better for reviews.

I trust them both

I rent games first and make up my own mind, I trust my own opinion over that of someone for all I know has been forced to play a game because its there job.

If its a game I cant rent I read forums on sites like here. I dont trust reviewers for the most part and not ever again after GTA4, it was a good game but holy sweet monkey jesus it wasnt near that good as reviewers made out.

Gamespot, I like IGN, but I feel that sometimes they're too lenient, you can be sure that a game that's "hyped" will get at least 9.0 most of the time. Gamespot, while it has reviews I don't agree with, like every site, can be way harsher, and thus more informative.

2) The PS3 review of Dead Space was put up a week after the 360 review, and was IDENTICAL.

3) Similarly, Dragon Ball Burst Limit had no PS3 review until WAY after the 360 review.

That proves that GS reviews with final code, they received the 360 game before, did the review, and didn't post the PS3 review before they have checked with the retail game that both games were identical and there were no regional differences

It took them TWO WEEKS to figure out that there were no regional differences?

Let's assume that they can only get the retail version on release day. Obviously, retail versions are released to reviewers before release day. They are shipped to the store before being sold, right?

I believe it was October 18th for 360 and November 1st for PC/PS3.

It released on 14th October. 4 days to review a game isn't too bad, but not great.

Presumably, since all versions had the same release date, GS got them all at the same time.

The 360 version took 4 days to finish and review.

Why did the PS3 and PC versions take 18 days, or quadruple the time, to finish and review?

I think renting the game and figuring it out for yourself is better than both. Gamespot can be harsh but I trust their reviews more than IGN who gives hype scores to hyped games. I used to like both but now I just check Gamespots pros and cons. If the con seems like a pro I add a few points and vice versa. IGN will deduct points for say sound or graphics and still give the game a very high score.

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.
