Better(if we are to assume Motion Wand + PS3 is better) does not mean success. Historicly in 100 years of research this has been rarely the case. Success has always gone to "good enough at the right time and price". The PS3+Motion Wand makes none of that. It's past good enough which raises the price and it's well past the right time; 3-4 years past.

It's also been proven that HDTV adoption != HD Console adoption. Often people buy TV that are good enough or what there is available and it becoming more increasing that getting a non HDTV is harder. Which invalidates the shift. Patcher as usual doesn't know what he is talking about.



Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

Not sure how everyone else is reading this article but the way I readi Pachter is predicting that Nintendo will need to release a HD console soon. The person who wrote the article then summises that the PS3 will effectively bee the predicted Wii HD. Pacther himself is not saying the PS3 is Wii HD.

Talk about misleading. Then again, the site kind of made this dubious.

Am I malicious if I think this latest fruit of Pachter's efforts is (heavily) influenced by some recent Malstrom articles about Sony finally doing some right things to expand its audience and warding off disruption brought by Wii?

A lot of people in the thread mentioned that instead of a Nunchuck you will have a DS 3 in the other hand and move that way is that for sure ? How the they track your movements with the Sixaxis feature ? or should you move the Stick in some way ? Sorry i consider myself as a Sony Fan but if thats the Solution its a really dumb one. I cant imagine that this should be the solution thats pretty weak in my eyes they should add another Wand with an analogue Stick on it thats it but with the DS 3 in the Other Hand its not going to be a success.

I suppose you could say that the PS3 is the Wii-HD, if the Wii were in third place in both market share and popularity.

Gee. I thought about this a year ago. It's because the Wii is now on top with outdated hardware that Sony realize that some time in the future the Big N would release Wii-HD when the HD consoles started to gain momentum. Slowly but surely more people are getting HDTV which you can even hook up to your PC.
As long as Wii on top PS3 nor X360 doesn't need to build a new system only include some kind motion detection device. The wand is an excellent idea as a mouse substitution instead trying to aim a wiimote at the IR bar.
So for now Wii is still on top and way ahead when it comes to motion control. Yet I see the wand as the perfect console mouse and even better since it could included muliplayer . In fact I would buy the wand right now for the PC if it was nothing but a mouse substitute. It would be easy to use than a mouse on the couch with the PC hooked up to my HDTV.

The investment would likely be too large. 2 wands for single player games? We're talking $60-80 easily. 4 wands for a two player game? 8 wands for a four player game? No, as cool as it would be, I don't think it's a realistic solution, although it might work for a few select titles.

A wii mote and a nunchuck is practically the price of two dualshock 3s. If people have no problems buying that they should have no problems buying two wands.

How do you figure? The low end retail on a DS3 is $39.99(priced at newegg) and the high end(MSRP) you find at most places is $54.99(priced at Target and SonyStyle). The Wiimote + Nunchuck combo is $60. That's not practically the price of two DS3s, no matter how you cut it. If they price the Wand at the same price as the DS3, which seems plausible considering it'll be more expensive to make, it would cost in many stores $110 to buy two wands for a single player game. The approach is not feasible based on any realistic pricing model. Let's move on.

It's hard to gather a price on Wii Motion + since it's packaged for free in Wii Sports Resort, for an extra $10 in Grand Slam Tennis and Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10, and is $20 standalone. It's impossible to pass up one of the better deals since those are the only reasons to buy the motion + in the first place right now. Even then, a $110 price tag on 2 wands would outweigh an $80 price tag on a Wiimote, motion + and nunchuck combo.

think of it the other way. $110 for two wands or Wiimote, nunchuck, motion + and a game (WSR)

For anyone who is calling Pachter an idiot, read the article first. weishbloke is right. Pachter didn't call PS3 with wands a Wii HD. The idiot from PS3 cetner that wrote the article did.



MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.
