Forums - Sales - PS3 Sales = 250K WW this week, BIGGEST Comeback ever?!

those attempts to put a negative spin on the ps3 domination reek of desperation.

this is in no way akin to what the gamecube did.

nintendo always goes for a narrow niche in the market. sometimes that market proves large (the wii). the gamecube was never a serious threat to the xbox or ps2. the ps3 is trying to appeal to all classes. this is only the beginning. come next year, the bubbles from gt5 and gow3 will top 300k for a good while.

Nintendogamer: ODST won't make almost any effect on X360 sales, maybe X360 will hit 150k but now I think it's the most it can do. PS3 will be something like this 200-220.

I was going along what iBlah said, he said if new super mario bros wii will boost wii sales then halo ODST will do the same to 360. He didn't say those words but that's what he was thinking.

Xoj, what exactly were the Wii numbers when the 360 couldn't reach it? I'm sure they were much higher than they are now.. AS was said in another thread, Wii has done 1 Million EVERY 3 weeks, as an average for it's entire lifespan, the same as Sony has been able to do for the last 3 weeks. It's not that great when you consider that fact.

You also have to consider the fact that this was a $100 price cut on one of the most expensive consoles in history going into the holidays.

Also just to make sure I make my point:

http://au.cube.ign.com/articles/463/463155p1.html

US, January 14, 2004 - Nintendo's vice president of corporate affairs recently returned from time off with her newborn daughter and updated us on GameCube sales in the US, some developments for 2004 and more. She also used her powerful Jedi mind tricks to make us believe she was giving us new information on the future when in fact she was merely dodging our questions. Following that interview:

IGNcube: So tell us, why is everyone at Nintendo so happy?

Perrin Kaplan: Well, number-one we did incredibly well in 2003 on both of our hardware systems. In fact, we basically won 2003 and moved ourselves to the number two spot and Microsoft's Xbox to number three.

IGNcube: And this is in the US or is this worldwide?

Perrin: In the US.

IGNcube: That's excellent news. Congratulations. So let's go over this from the beginning. How were December GameCube sales?

Perrin: Year-on-year we were up 68.5% [in December] based on units sold. We sold about 1.1 million GameCubes in December. We did a little under half a million in December of last year by comparison. For the whole year we were up 35%. Our competitors were both in the negative.

IGNcube: Wow, that's fantastic news.

Perrin: It's really good.

IGNcube: How about GameCube life-to-date sales in the US?

Perrin: We're at 6.8 million GameCubes sold in the US life-to-date and we sold about 3.17 million of those this year.

IGNcube: Excellent. That's in the US though. What about global sales?

Perrin: On global sales, I don't know if you saw but Iwata made a comment to Reuters that our global holiday sales were up 70% year-on-year.

LoL

I guess the PS3 is the GC of this gen. You should put that in your thread title Darth.

I did... it will be on top of the PS3 next week... im almost sure of it.

PS3 without tov this week would have been around 225k I reckon, next week around 190k.

I wonder what caused the boost, probably some people have just started doing their christmas shopping, but just a fraction amount of people, we will be seeing a lot of boost in late november due to NSMBwii and in December due to Christmas spirits.

if that's the case then Xbox 360 will dominate the sale for the rest of the month due to Halo 3: ODST

Quite possibly, about 170K for 360 as for 26th September or over 200K is possible still considering Halo ODST has sold over 2 million already.

first of all 50K WW is hardly a lot of boost even if it does happen.

secondly don't forget about 50 dollars rebate MS just introduced.

thirdly only first games from big franchises can make huge boosts to hardwares, majority of existing Halo fans (if not all) already own Xbox, only small amount of new comers will buy a system for the game, if anything can move Xbox hardware thats will be the rebate, not the game.

Same goes for Mario, NSMB won't move as many hardwares as the 50 dollars price cut would do, if it can move hardware for Wii in November, so can MW2 for PS360.

Yes it's Sony domination.

Yes it's the biggest comeback in consle history.

Yes it's crushing the Xbox once again, being the behemoth that Sony always was.

Yes I perdicted this.

Yes I feel bad as a Xboy.

lol...I dont know, I feel pretty good being an xbox owner. I like to play games and not count sales though...

Remember that there are lot more DS owners than Wii owners so everyone that has a DS that loved new super mario bros DS but hasn't got a wii would surley buy a wii for NSMBwii.  Plus considering it's close to December.

this includes PS3 probably being able to outsell Wii in Japan (for this years sales only).

You are aware that PS3 is still 100k behind Wii in Japan for the year even after this week? I'm not saying it can't happen, but probably implies a big chance of it happening.

That predictions of mine is strictly based on the FF13 PS3 boost.....with the bundle announced, it seems more likley!

I'm sure it will sell some extra consoles, but it will only be able to overtake the Wii if it is close enough. Is there anything else released on PS3 to keep it close to Wii when it has a price cut, Wii Fit Plus and New Super Mario Bros?

Tekken 6........and I can't think of anything else that strikes out atm.

@keep_the_change

thanks

I'm far from sure that is enough, looking at past sales Tekken isn't that big in Japan.

So as we can see PS3 has done 250K this week WW (from news article).

So are you impressed with these SALES?

It did 303K last week.....DOWN ONLY 18%!

ABOVe Wii still

No 3rd Place CONSOLE in History has done something like this......this includes PS3 probably being able to outsell Wii in Japan (for this years sales only).

This is the biggest comeback ever.

What PS3 has overcome:

- A book about its Failure written in Japan 2 years ago

- $600 at launch

- Terrible publicity in first year

- Beaten by the GBA for months straight in the summer of 2007 in North America

- 3rd Place public mindshare

- Loss of big exclusives

- Threats from activision to stop supporting it

- Many sites in early - mid 2009 saying SONY should discontinue it & so on

- No games aura of early - mid 2007

It's playstation. What do you expect?
