Forums - Sales Discussion - European Users: How well is PS3 selling in Europe?

thenixta said: Surely the same arguments applied to the US launch, yet we saw people lining for days to get one... I'm sure the PS3 will sell well here, it may even sell out or the buzz may increase during the day, I'm just pointing out the difference in launch hype between regions.
Well, according to some signs the hype will probably be over in a rather short period of time. Most people I know would wait for price dcuts before they even would consider to buy a PS-3 While the consoles were there with running games they were most of the time deserted. In fact the Xbox tended to attract more people, No, these are only small observations that might be a bit off. But in general there seem to be less people excited about the PS-3 games than people who want to use it under Linux and for BluRays. In fact, there was even a spiegel online article with exactly the same opinion: Well for games you should probably better buy a Xbox 360 but if yo0u want s small entertainment center for your living room the PS-3 might be usefull. How some other people already said: don't expect any sensible sale statsitics in the near future. Even Sony will probably have to wait three months, before they know how successful their launch really was!

i was at myer melbourne for the ps3 launch last night, and i can tell you i could count on my two hands how many ps3's got sold. also what is sonys reasoning for making the ps3 so expensive in aus? surely logistics dont add on 200 dollars per console.....

Well i've watched the PS3 launch in Paris on TV, there was a boat with 1000 units to sell. An hour before the launch, another boat with a huge "Xbox360 love You" Ad on it just came in front on the 100-150 people who came at the launch. Sony said they would offer 1 PS3 every 100 PS3 sold, but with only 100-150 people, i'm not quite sure they actually had to offer even one. On the Champs-Elysées, there was only one guy waiting for a PS3, he has been interviewed by LCI TV channel.

but you have 20k units which are already being preordered. http://palgn.com.au/article.php?title=Over+%2420+million+of+PlayStation+3+hardware+pre-ordered&id=7071 An estimated 50k units are available at AU launch. http://palgn.com.au/media.php?id=7071&sid=c2bf09e16dfb2a8d21de3b96e29ca009 Why would you line up when you can easily get one from store the next morning.

thts not true. here is the VETO. http://www.jeux-france.com/images66_4_19695.html http://www.jeux-france.com/images63_4_19695.html http://www.jeux-france.com/images25_4_19695.html http://www.jeux-france.com/images26_4_19695.html http://www.jeux-france.com/images19_4_19695.html http://www.jeux-france.com/images18_4_19695.html sure there were not 1000s of people but a 200 odd is not bad at all considering most people had their ps3s preordered . In UK,BELGIUM, HOLLAND, LUXEMBOURG, IRELAND 90% of ps3's allocation is already sold out. So the success of launch parties are irrelevant.

***WOW*** http://www.jeux-france.com/news19695_la-playstation-3-sort-en-europe.html It's seriously over for Sony. I just went from thinking they'd scrape by with a respectable 3rd place finish to the PS3 going the way of the Dreamcast (only without the fond memories and classic games). That's one of the most surreally tragically hilarious things I've ever seen. I wish I was there to witness the history.

a) Because you don't know how many have actually been "preordered". The Wii had more available at launch, and none available the next day. b) Because "die-hard" PS3 fans *should* want to pick theirs up at launch. I was at the Wii launch at Highpoint (much smaller than the main Wii launch in Melbourne), and we had 40-50 people there - maybe more. It was limited by the number of preorders the store was allowed to take/cut-off date. No matter what spin Sony puts on this: LESS SALES = BAD MORE SALES = GOOD I don't think anyone can argue with that ;)
