Forums - Sales Discussion - European Users: How well is PS3 selling in Europe?

I just bought my PS3 at Saturn in Frankfurt I didn't preorder, I just went there and got one. There are plenty left in both stores. Enough on stock, don´t panic, if you want a PS3 you can get one easily. But this machine is absolutely cool !! It's an unbelievable feeling, even the Sixaxis is nearly perfect. Perfect job from Sony.

You can really say that: plenty in stock everywhere. If I consider that that Sony only shipped 100.000 for Germany I really have to wonder. This can't be described as a big push against the Xbox 360 (some available) or Wii. This looks more and more like a third place for Sony.

In Portugal, only one of the online stores (FNAC) reports a sold out status, and I'm not sure that it's sold out in the actual stores. Many other stores have lots of PS3s still for sale. Launch events were unimpressive, at best. EDIT: Non-official reports are saying 5000 out of 30000 sold during launch.

today in late afternoon i went shopping (i live in a big city in southern france) and checked for ps3 at a game store, an electronic store and a walmart-like. all three had ps3 in stock, about 10 each. lots of people watching the demos but none seemed eager to buy. i asked around and store managers said that they sold about half of their stock and expect to be sold out by the end of next week. ps: i asked for wii... none in either store and a long "pre-order" list in 2 of the stores.

i was today in our shopping city in vienna - it is number 15 of the worlds largest shopping malls (look at wikipedia) you can get there easy a ps3 in every electronic shop - in the biggest shop (media markt) are mininum 60 ps3 left. but i must tell you i dont wonder - it looked for me like they used non hd television for presentation (i don't know the games on real hdtv but it didn't look impressive for me) well - so far a report from austria/vienna

Well, one day after the European launch we get a clearer picture: 1.) According to business analysts the number of PS3´s shipped to Europe was much smaller than 1 Mio. ... probably around 500.000 - 700.000 ( source: 4players.de news ). So, I think the VG Charts number effectivly shows the number of SHIPPED PS3 ...not the number of sold ones. 2.) Popular German newspapers (Spiegel, Stern etc.) gave the PS3 a very warm welcome and excellent reviews. And...there was a MASSIVE ( but crappy) publicity campaign by SONY on several TV stations (Pro7 and SAT1). Most newspapers here said the "launch day was a kind of success.... in Berlin"..and shows pictures of the official PS3 launch party there. But several net sources and online gaming magazines show a different picture: the SONY shop at the Postdamer Platz in Berlin - were the launch party was hold - was equiped with 1.500 PS3s and sold.... 200 (!) of those on Friday night... including the preordered ones. 3.) If you collect the various comments in German PS3 fan forums you get more informations: - a guy claimed his Sony shop south of Hamburg got 40 PS3 and sold all of them on Friday - a Media Market sales man from Cologne told us all 4 Cologne shops got 350 PS3´s and sold 90 of those on Friday. - a Saturn shop near Stuttgart sold all his 20 PS3 on Friday , while the neighbouring bigger shop already has 80% of his 50 consoles untouched. I was visiting my ProMarkt Shop here this morning and talked to one of the clerks about the launch day. Well, he said they were satisfied: they got 40 PS3´s: 5 were preordered and 10 were sold on Friday. They hope to sell this rest during the next "4 - 8 weeks". So, I think the PS3 launch day wasn´t a full sucess, but in Germany far away from a total flop. But after all, I still wonder about the SONY officials, who were quoted in the news TODAY with the statement " we will sell 6 Mio units worldwide till the end of March 2007 "....what did this guys smoke ? I guess the PS3 will be a success here in Europe...later this year, probably around the x.mas time and after a massive price drop. Cheers TCMHQ P.S.: I beg your pardon for my bad english :o)

Supposedly 300k in UK, 150k in France and 100k in Germany and at least 80k in Spain gives 630k already, so how can that be? Are all these numbers bogus then? PS: It hasn't sold out in Spain either.

News reports said that the launch in Holland was quiet though kind of succesful. Looking around in stores in my city (in the Netherlands) today confirms that quite a lot of PS3 are still available. (yet Wii's were nowhere to be found)
You might try asking Nintendo why they can't make enough, it's not like they are that difficult to manufacture. Of course, I've been able to find Wiis for weeks now here in the US, maybe Europe is just getting snubbed.

For those of you posting that PS3 is not sold out everywhere... No console is ever completely sold out everywhere, it is just a matter of timing and location. I found a Wii for myself and a PS3 for a friend within a week of launch in the USA, without preordering. The difference is, for most people, it is still more trouble than it is worth to find a Wii, and much easier to find a PS3. Considering Nintendo is selling more than Sony though, despite limits in production, it is hard to get on their case about not shipping enough. The situation would be much more interesting if Nintendo was so limited in production that Sony sold more, even though demand for Wii was understood to be higher. Right now, demand for Wii and sales of Wii are higher than demand of PS3, and sales of PS3.

No but the numbers of UK and France are the old ones. At this time it Was expected that 200.000 to 240.000 would be shipped in Gerrmany. Later analysts claimed that Sony has shipped less and Sony Germany confirmed that they only shipped 100.000 . So this 100.000 is already the new value but we haven't heard new numbers from France or the UK.
