Forums - Sony - Two CONTROLl Methods for MGS:Peace Walker! (Shooting & Action)

Metal Gear mastermind Hideo Kojima keeps on sharing new bits about Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker at the Kojima Productions blog. Today, Kojima revealed that the downloadable Tokyo Game Show demo will offer two control methods.

Players will be able to choose from Shooter Type and Action Type controls. The difference between the two is in the button layout. In the action type mode, you use the PSP d-pad for camera controls. In the shooting type mode you use the face buttons for camera control.

Examples of the action type include Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops and Monster Hunter-style games (yes, Kojima mentions Monster Hunter -- that's respect!). Shooting type examples include MGS4 and FPS games.

Kojima's personal preference is the shooting type.

There are a bunch of other mini announcements in today's updates. Here are some snippets.

Kazuki Muraoka writes that the sound team is preparing to make an announcement of some form at the show.

Kojima shares some details on what happens when you clear the PW download demo with a high score. You'll apparently get a wallpaper. Kojima has the wallpaper in his PSP:

Kojima also says that there's a secret in the Tokyo Game Show t-shirt that was revealed in the previous day's updates.

Can you see it? There may be some hints in the comments section of the blog post.

I already wrote about the Kojima Productions Japanese Twitter. There's also an English Twitter from the studio . It's apparently updated by Christine Kogure, who writes a bit about the updates here.

The Twitter feed should provide a good look at the Tokyo Game Show Peace Walker happenings. Those members of the general public who want to actually get a look at the game on the show floor will have to wait until the 26th, though. Want an early preview? Then turn to Famitsu.com's TV Live channel at 20:00 on the 25th. The Midnight Live 360 program will be hosting a sequence showing off Peace Walker's cooperative play. Yes, a PSP game is going to be on an Xbox 360 broadcast.

Even if you're not interested in Peace Walker, you may want to check this program out, as Kojima says that his "beautiful PR lady" Sayaka Yamamoto will also make an appearance.

Speaking of the ladies, check out these little packages:

These are the PSP "key attachment" accessories that Konami will be handing out at TGS. Kojima was visiting the marketing department for the first time in a while and found that the ladies there had wrapped them up even without being asked to. He titles this post, "A gold medal for the ladies!".

In closing, here's a picture of what Kojima looks like when he takes a break from the debugging and practice play sessions:

He says that he carries the eye mask with him often when out on travel.

The CONTROL scheme was my BIGGEST COMPLAINT from MGS:PO
Its why I hated the damn game......this is good news.....with two control schemes a choice should be there
BUT is the shooting control scheme.....an FPS mode.....it says its like MGS4 & FPS's.....but MGS4 wasn't like an FPS in its controls
if so BOOOO!

I can't wait for this. Seriously, this is my most anticipated game in 2010, I even want it more than Heavy Rain! CGI, please don't kill me wherever you are.

I HATED MGS: PO's controls. It's why I gave up on the game. The shooting type sounds identical to the Syphon Filter controls and they worked really well.

Hmm, pictures don't work.

And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,

Action mode sounds awful. How can you move with the PSP's analog nub and move the camera with the D-Pad? It might work alright on the GO, but not overly well, and it would be impossible on a 1000-3000.

Kojima is behind the game so you don't need to worry.

I won't be using the action type... hated MGS:PO's controls

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

I doubt I'll get it, it will be more stealthy than MGS 4, and I did not like the bits where I had to be stealthy in MGS4
