My friend rented Tremors in HD,720P and it was like 4 gigs,so 1080p will be like 6-8 gigs.

Oh here is another thing,if you buy the movie, and you wanna watch you can just stream it,or just dowload the hole thing.

I have Over the Hedge in 1080p and it takes 4.4gb.

a matter of time.... i was SO against music downloads up until late last year... now I will never buy another cd's.

movies will follow soon enough.

This argument fails in 1 regard.

Digital music is convenient and the consumer wanted it. I can take my digital music anywhere easily and play it over friends houses on their speaker system or to any room in my house. I can quickly copy my digital music to my MP3 player and carry it around to wherever I need it and plug it into most stereos with a 1/8" jack.

Digital movies are locked down and impossible for me to transfer to a friends house to play on their home theater system. I can take my disc with me wherever I want easily. I could also move a disc from my bedroom to my basement and play it in both locations easily. Essentially, someone needs to create a device that costs ~$100-200 that can store all my movies and will fit in my pocket and can extremely easily be plugged into any TV.

CD's obviously still sell and finally have been beaten by digital distribution, but the market still supports them. It will be a very very long time for digital distribution to outsell discs for movies if they don't solve the convenience problem.

^This.

And also if the movies can't be taken out of the 360 hard drive, then be prepared to spend $$ on upgrading the 360 HDD.

LOL what a stupid thread

VOD is the future.....NOW.......B_E_L_I_E_V_E

The people that need Blu-Ray are the people that understand the difference in HD mediums. Blu-ray is the best. Period. It offers the best audio-visual fideltiy. And I don't have to "delete" a disk from my cabinet due to storage issues. Who needs Blu-Ray? Anybody not swinging from MS's dick.

if the bitrate would be anything like bluray i will use such a feature, but on large tvs you can quite easily distinguish 1080p bd from 1080p with lower bitrate.

but i think in 2-3 years their will be a codec which will reach bd quality with lower bit rates.

Did they mention the bitrate used for the encodes? Also, curious to know the horizontal resolution. 1080p has become more of a marketing term that can mask the underlying technology. If Xbox Live is able to offer Blu-ray quality via a digital distribution model, then that is incredible.

Incredible?

By who's defenition, yours?

lol you do realise that pirate groups release 1080p rips that are basically "bluray" quality that come in at between 4-10GB depending on length and source quality.

Anyways, it's not "incredible". Incredible would be if I could fly with cerial boxes attached to my arms.

Your statement makes no sense.  Also, lighten up on the attitude.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

Yes. I'm wearing a black, backless sequin gown. And I spun myself into this thread.

The thread title opens itself up to "attititude". "Who needs Blu-Ray?''. C'mon. My answer was in line with the question the way it was posed.

Wrong. Unless you actually are a Blu-Ray disk or player, the title shouldn't insult you. Whereas you directly insulted people who think differently than you because they "swing from MS's dick."

Who said it insulted me? I take no personal insult from the ignorance of others. And yes, I Am A BLU-RAY DISK.
