An exclusive game bundled with a superior console = win.
FFXIII bundle will crush MW2 bundle.

Crush is too big a word. I think FF XIII bundle will win as well, but only for 3 reasons. 1) The Xbox 360 bundle will be higher in price 2) Most people who play MW already have an XBox 360. 3) FF XIII is easily more anticipated then MW2.

So FF XIII will sell more bundles, but Modern Warfare 2 will easily sell more copies. FF XIII isn't going to sell 7-8 million copies worldwide by the end of the year. MW2 will.

Modern Warfare sold twelve million copies before factoring in PC sales. That is a one, a two, and six zeroes. That's more than Final Fantasy sold at the absolute screaming height of its popularity.

The Highest selling Final Fantasy game is Final Fantasy 7, which sold 9.71 Million copies. You also have to remember that this was released on ONE console as opposed to MW's Multiplatform status, where the PS3  shares an equal amount of playing ground with the 360 in terms of Multiplats.

In this time, seeing how Japan basically ate up Dragon Quest, a Square Enix developed game, It would be ingorant to immediately say that MW2 will dominate FFXIII. If I recall correctly, 2 months was all it took for Dragon Quest to sell more than 3.50 million copies. This show you how much Japan adores RPG'S. So in conclusion, I wouldn't underestimate FFXIII. MW2 will be excellent in terms of sales, but as far as I know, I think its a mixed bag

Dragon Quest has always, always, always obliterated Final Fantasy in terms of Japanese sales. It's not a contest. If you think FFXIII will sell in the neighborhood of DQIX in Japan you are in for a rude awakening. More, it would have to sell that much three times, once for each major region, to compare to the first Modern Warfare. Activision expects MW2 to be bigger.

This isn't going to be a contest. It's going to be a massacre.

Instad of talking about overall game sales... what do you think will win the "bundle war".

After all that is what the thread is about.

What is in the FFXIII bundle? How much does it cost? How different is the cost between FFXII game and PS3 purchase separatly.

I also am skeptical fo FFXIII pushing hardware anyway. 2 games left have been synonymous for years with the Playstation brand. That is Final Fantasy and Grand Tourismo. I believe a huge amount of people justified thier purchase of the PS3 already because they know they will get those 2 games.

As for MW2. The game sales will blow away FFXIII, but dont know about the bundle because of how many MW1 sales there have been. The fanbase already has a console. Yet upwards of 2 million 360's will be sold in NA in November and December. That is far more than how many PS3s will sell in Japan this year after FFXIII releases.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

@CGI-quality: Not putting down Final Fantasy. I originally replied to Smashed when he stated that Final Fantasy was bigger than Call of Duty. It isn't.

@Carl: Hard to say. Does VGChartz track bundle sales? Does NPD?

I don't doubt that MW2 will be a huge game and will sell more software than FFXIII in the long run.  But in regards to the OP, MW2 is unlikely to sell more bundled hardware.  For these reasons (some of which are repeated from other posts)

1. FFXIII is exclusive in Japan, MW2 is not exclusive in NA

2. FFXIII is the first FF on current gen hardware, MW2 will sell a lot of copies to people who already have the hardware to play it, since they are likely fans of MW1.

3. FFXII fans tend to make it a day one purchase, whereas MW1 has had extremely long legs (which is great for the game overall)

4. ASSUMPTION: If FFXII is bundled like other PS3 bundles, it'll have the same price as the most expensive version of the console, which at this moment is $299.  The MW2 bundle will be $399 (I know I'm speaking in dollars here), granted, the MW2 bundle is cool with the branded case and two controllers, but the extra hundred bucks may deter people who just want the game.

5. Japanese people love pretending to be someone else WAY more than Americans love shooting other people.  :)

One other thing that does swing in favor of MW2 though (and may change everything):  PS3 + FFXIII out in Japan around Christmas, does not mean nearly as much as Xbox 360 + MW2 around Christmas, since Christmas does not cause a huge upswing in console sales in Japan compared to NA.  So MW2 bundle will get a big boost from the fact that some people will give it as a gift.

Does it matter who tracks bundle sales?

I just want to know what bundle you think will win

Final Fantasy XIII bundle.

It does matter, because when it comes to sales I don't like dealing in hypotheticals: I'd like to eventually see one side of the bet play out.

And like I said: it's hard to say. A very (very) large number of PS3 owners in Japan may have bought it just for this game, but the Modern Warefare fanbase is already in full force in the US and its bundle sales are going to have thei legs cut out from under them thanks to that.

It's hard to say, like I said, especially because I'm just not sure how well FFXIII is going to do in Japan.

Probably the exclusive, right?

Plus, games always sell more systems in Japan. So I vote Final Fantasy XIII.

Seeing as how FFXIII comes out practically at THE END of the year, how could it? Even MW2 wouldn't do 7-8mill copies in 2 weeks....

Wow, I didn't even answer the thread..

Well, IMO, FFXIII Bundle because

1). You have PS3+ FF+ Japan. Now what does equate to?

2). The bundle is limited so when they are all gone, people will be urged to buy the game AND the console itself.

3). FFXIII has been anticipated since 2006. MW2 has been hyped up for a little longer than a year. Because of this and its status as an exclusive in Japan, this will be enough for people to buy the console just for that game. (Example: MGS4, although it didn't have an enormous increase, it boosted PS3 sales pretty well)

This is the true definition of owning.
