Modern Warfare sold twelve million copies before factoring in PC sales. That is a one, a two, and six zeroes. That's more than Final Fantasy sold at the absolute screaming height of its popularity.

The Highest selling Final Fantasy game is Final Fantasy 7, which sold 9.71 Million copies. You also have to remember that this was released on ONE console as opposed to MW's Multiplatform status, where the PS3  shares an equal amount of playing ground with the 360 in terms of Multiplats.

In this time, seeing how Japan basically ate up Dragon Quest, a Square Enix developed game, It would be ingorant to immediately say that MW2 will dominate FFXIII. If I recall correctly, 2 months was all it took for Dragon Quest to sell more than 3.50 million copies. This show you how much Japan adores RPG'S. So in conclusion, I wouldn't underestimate FFXIII. MW2 will be excellent in terms of sales, but as far as I know, I think its a mixed bag

Dragon Quest has always, always, always obliterated Final Fantasy in terms of Japanese sales. It's not a contest. If you think FFXIII will sell in the neighborhood of DQIX in Japan you are in for a rude awakening. More, it would have to sell that much three times, once for each major region, to compare to the first Modern Warfare. Activision expects MW2 to be bigger.

This isn't going to be a contest. It's going to be a massacre.

I don't doubt that MW2 will be a huge game and will sell more software than FFXIII in the long run.  But in regards to the OP, MW2 is unlikely to sell more bundled hardware.  For these reasons (some of which are repeated from other posts)

1. FFXIII is exclusive in Japan, MW2 is not exclusive in NA

2. FFXIII is the first FF on current gen hardware, MW2 will sell a lot of copies to people who already have the hardware to play it, since they are likely fans of MW1.

3. FFXII fans tend to make it a day one purchase, whereas MW1 has had extremely long legs (which is great for the game overall)

4. ASSUMPTION: If FFXII is bundled like other PS3 bundles, it'll have the same price as the most expensive version of the console, which at this moment is $299.  The MW2 bundle will be $399 (I know I'm speaking in dollars here), granted, the MW2 bundle is cool with the branded case and two controllers, but the extra hundred bucks may deter people who just want the game.

5. Japanese people love pretending to be someone else WAY more than Americans love shooting other people.  :)

One other thing that does swing in favor of MW2 though (and may change everything):  PS3 + FFXIII out in Japan around Christmas, does not mean nearly as much as Xbox 360 + MW2 around Christmas, since Christmas does not cause a huge upswing in console sales in Japan compared to NA.  So MW2 bundle will get a big boost from the fact that some people will give it as a gift.
