Forums - Gaming Discussion - Japanese standoff: [PS3 vs Wii] Holidays Edition

I think Wii has a small edge. I see there at least 4 games on Wii that should sell over 300k (5 if Tales of Graces releases in December) and 3 games for PS3, if you count GT5 of course.

Tales of Vesperia
Final Fantasy XIII
Gran Turismo 5
Tekken 6
Maybe Bayonnetta

I count 5.

If GT5 releases this year, the PS3 definitly wins the Holidays.

The PS3 has more games but the Wii has the biggest games (besides FF) in Samurai Warriors 3, Wii Fit+, NSMBWii and Mario and Sonic. Also don't forget Tales of Graces which the developers said is hitting "Winter 09."

"Pier was a chef, a gifted and respected chef who made millions selling his dishes to the residents of New York City and Boston, he even had a famous jingle playing in those cities that everyone knew by heart. He also had a restaurant in Los Angeles, but not expecting LA to have such a massive population he only used his name on that restaurant and left it to his least capable and cheapest chefs. While his New York restaurant sold kobe beef for $100 and his Boston restaurant sold lobster for $50, his LA restaurant sold cheap hotdogs for $30. Initially these hot dogs sold fairly well because residents of los angeles were starving for good food and hoped that the famous name would denote a high quality, but most were disappointed with what they ate. Seeing the success of his cheap hot dogs in LA, Pier thought "why bother giving Los Angeles quality meats when I can oversell them on cheap hotdogs forever, and since I don't care about the product anyways, why bother advertising them? So Pier continued to only sell cheap hotdogs in LA and was surprised to see that they no longer sold. Pier's conclusion? Residents of Los Angeles don't like food."

"The so-called "hardcore" gamer is a marketing brainwashed, innovation shunting, self-righteous idiot who pays videogame makers far too much money than what is delivered."

sony has better games, but i still say wii

its like betting against micheal jordans bulls.

Last year's game of the year turned out to be Silent Hill : Shattered Memories (online GOTY was COD 6).  This year's GOTY leader to me is Heavy Rain.

Wii Friend Code: 4094-4604-1880-6889

Considering winter starts on the 22nd of December, Tales of Graces is pretty obviously going to be a 2010 release.

NSMB Wii is already confirmed to make it.

Where is GT5?

After looking at the almost null short-term boost NSMB brought to the DS, I think PS3 will win this holidays.

great list trestres!

i know this thread is about PS3 vs Wii
but if you could include upcoming PSP games and DS games on the list (make them smaller font or different color)
that will give us the better overall picture about which console is in a better position in Japan this winter
'cause consoles are competing with handhelds in Japan as well

It (PS3's market share) might hit 30%, but definently not more. ~ Neo

I thought Bayonetta got pushed back to 2010???? Either way it will be close holiday season for the 2, it will probably tip in favor of the PS3 if GT5 makes it though. Otherwise I see the Wii taking it by a slight edge

Wii has NSMB, game over, even FF and GT can't stand up against that, FF sales in japan will be 3 million max, while GT will be 2 million max, NSMB can get around 4-5 million on its own

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)
