If High Voltage is pleased with the sales, does nobody actually think that The Conduit might be under tracked here at VGC?

"[David Pellas] I can't provide exact numbers at this time, but we are pleased with the latest reports, especially given the tough economy. We recently received a report that showed that The Conduit is the top online game on the Wii, which is very exciting. We hope to maintain this ranking and look for strong sales to continue through the quarter."

Even through world economic troubles, would they really be happy with their latest reports if they look like they do here on VGC? Or would he? Is he lying? is his source lying? 2 years of development, 75 core developers plus everybody else on the studio has at some point been working on the game. There is lots of money just right there.

Still, 300 000 shipped might be a breakeven for The Conduit and some stores over the world should order more copies over time. So maybe the shipped data is more pleasing for the eyes then sales to us mortals.

And when it comes to the game engine, that work will probably be paid by more games then The Conduit.

Could be. VGChartz still doesnt get data from Walmart, right?

What exactly are they pleased about?

I don't care what the devs claimed. The internet already decided it bombed and that is that.

Quick, grab shares in Sega now before they go through the roof!

They are pleased, especially given the tough economy. That does not say if the game was profitable or not.

I love when some people try to make this like they claimed to made profit on the game and reason it by "they can't lie about their financials". Like you had to tell your financials to some random blogger. Haha. :D

While it is difficult to say whether the game has been profitable or not, High Voltage being "Pleased" with sales probably means that the sales of The Conduit were in the range of Sega's expectations for them.

One thing a lot of people don’t understand about large publishers is that they have a very different mindset about the "Success" of their big budget blockbusters that are (often) based on well established IPs and developed by their best studios, and moderate budget new IPs developed by small unknown studios. The big budget games often are an order of magnitude more expensive to develop, and there is an opportunity cost associated to having the developer or IP used for that particular game.

If a small game breaks even or loses money at a rate which can easily be recovered and written off the publisher is (probably) happy to give the studio more money to develop other games as long as the developer can increase in quality or expand interest in the product they’re producing. If a studio isn’t costing the publisher too much money, they tend to be happy letting them work for long periods of time under the hope for an eventual break-out success.

Now, with High Voltage in particular, the company seems to have some talent (in particular on the technical side of things) and if they're smart they should actively be recruiting experienced people from other studios to build their talent. I could be wrong, but I think the right handful of people added to their roster would have made all the difference with a game like The Conduit.

I just beat the game last night. Glad to see it's having steady sales.

I was quite surprised by how i've apparently taken to the game, according to Nintendo Channel stats at any rate. It got all the way up to rank 5 (and will probably pass rank 4, unless i find time to play Twilight Princess again, which is unlikely) in total playtime, past other games that i've had for years, and past Mario Kart Wii, one of the few other Wii games that i've ever extensively played online

It could end up my personal GoTY, despite the fact that i really wasn't expecting much from it when i bought it, and wasn't endlessly thrilled with the single player, but the statistics prove they have to have done something right (especially given how tenuous the online connections were). We'll have to see if NSMBWii can't have the same addictive effect.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

It did shipped 300k... and at least 350k of those will be sold at full retail price....

Its not good IMO by any means, tough it could have been worse and it could have done sub Deadly Creatures sales. The technology is ready, and their new games that will probably will sell en-par with TC will ensure that the company remains active, and that Sega wont stop funding them.
