I don't think it's that big of a problem. In real life, I don't know anyone who's gotten the YLOD. I've personally seen the RROD more times than I'd like to admit.

Anyway, obey your original instinct and buy one. I would say the 120GB Slim, unless you want Linux on there for some odd reason, in which case get the 80GB. Both the same price, I believe.

The RRoD has been a far, far bigger problem than the YLoD; I don't think anyone is claiming otherwise. The YLoD has definitely hit a significant number of launch PS3s, though.
