I will bet you my life, the wii wont reach the ps2 next year. It's one of the worst predictions ever, ever. It makes no sense how ypu came up with it. And the PS3 wont go back to 150k this year.

And if it doesn't then so what?  Who does it hurt if it doesn't come true?  You are waayy too concerned over such things

That has to be the worst prediction ever. How much wii should sell weekly to get there, 1.2 million or something?

Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009

I mean Crazzyman had better predictions. None of this will ever happen.

Regardless, cumulative numbers show, the PS3 is selling faster.

That's only if you ignore the fact that PS1 launched almost 10-12 months later in the rest of the world outside Japan, so for almost a year there was one territory accounting for all of PS1's sales, compared to PS3 which had all territories getting the PS3 much faster

I mean, we can nitpick launch times, release dates and the whole nine. The bottomline, the PS3, in total consoles sold in 2 years and 10 months is selling faster than the PS1 was at 2 years and 10 months into it's life.

@ Avinash.

This.

Close around 1.1 million, and yes that is unlikely at this point, but I made this prediction long before the Wii sales slumped, almost 2 and a half years ago, so I don't mind if it doesn't come true, I'm just curious to see how close it gets

Ok, lets say for the sake of moving the discussion forward that it is the third fastest

But when you compare it to the PSP, which it is tracking a few million under, you see that the trend is for large, but short lived spikes in sales, so yeah even if its selling well at the moment it doesn't seem like it'll be sustained

I agree, this time next year the PS3 won't be at 50 million, make this whole PS3 > PS1 debate a bit pointless.

Thats why in my earlier post i said "so far"

reminds me of my threads i make

idk if there will be a week ending 24th?

wont it go 12th 19th 26th?

halo comes out on the 22nd so it will have about 3-4 days of HW impact if there will be an impact i suspect a EU bundle so there might be a bigger impact in EU than NA

JP HW sales should remain the same

last year wii sales declined at the end of sept and then rose quickly around oct so thers a chance wii could go lower than it is now

as 4 ps3 it will be at the border mark of 180k-200k on the week ending the 26th

i believe ps3 will make it and 360 will be close so i think both will outsell the wii

At that point, probably not. But this time next year isn't the same time frame as when there were 50mill PS1s shipped. March of 1999 is 4.5 yeasr after the release of the PS1. It'll beMarch 2011 by that time for PS3, can PS3 be at 5mill by then, not impossible.

The current order of things though, the PS3 is ahead.

He does have a point though, ok on paper it launched in 94. But it didn't launch in the west for a year after the Japan laucnh. Something to prove that the PS1 is ahead of PS3 at the same point in time, which I HATE. Is alligned launchs.

People are really underestimating the PS3 ...

No, I'm just taking historical trends with price cuts, especially of second and third place systems, and the fact that the PS3 didn't move much software with the price cut, just hardware, indicating either people just wanted the blu-ray capability, or it was a lot of upgrades, and the fact that I haven't heard of any rabid demand after the first week, indicating most of the demand was satisfied early

Historical trends? Answer me this...

When was the last time a 3rd or 2nd placed console was the 3rd fastest selling console in history?

You ARE underestimating the PS3, as Seece said.

And also, there was plenty of SW sold.

PS3 is NOT the 3rd fastest selling console in history.

In my opinion the N64 was not just the best console of the 5th gen but, to this day the best console ever created!

I don't think ODST would give much of a hardware boost- surely anyone who wants ODST would own a 360 for Halo 3 already?

I'm not even sure about the PS3 outselling it. It might, it might not.
