I think we should keep in mind that this latest PS3 price cut was accompanied by a new model, which inflated sales. If the Phat itself got a price cut we wouldn't have seen sales up as much I believe.

I think that a Wii pricecut would be similar to the 360 boost, but not the PS3 boost (as most people have viewed the PS3 as the most overpriced system on the market this gen and thus, avoided it)

In the end, it'd take the PS3/360 to drop their top level SKU to $200 to actually try to give the Wii a run for its money, and if the Wii dropped to $200 anytime soon, it'd be the last nail in the coffin vs the HD systems.

Pretty much. I'm mostly keeping my mouth shut because in the grand scheme of things, Nintendo with the Wii still holkds all the cards. While the HD twins are running out of cards to play.

It would help, but not as much as the PS3 cut, or even the 360 cut. I'm sure many people who buy a Wii have no idea how much it costs until they walk into the store.

No it would do a lot like the PS3 price cuts will, a few weeks boosted high and then a fall back, but that is not what Nintendo needs, they need a sustained rise, and that will require software

That remains to be seen. Maybe there is more demand for PS3 from now on. Wii sales have been declining for a while now.

No, Wii sales have been declining because of a lack of software, software is way below last year's level, but PS3 didn't see a significant software rise last week with the PS3 hardware sales boost, in fact in NA it dropped 11%, even as hardware took off, this indicates that there isn't a surge in PS3 demand, just a price drop and new SKU excitement

What? I thought wii had 2 "big" releases lately. MH3 and WSR?

Both are big games, but one is Japan only and the other is only one game, last year it had Brawl, Kart, Sports and Fit and Play were all selling over 100K week after week, that's not there anymore, so yeah it has a few games selling well, but its well down from last year

That's half the problem, but that has been true from the beginning for the Wii. The other part is that Wii Music and Animal Crossing were not what people wanted, and when they flopped, there was no good third party support to fall back on (Guitar Hero was probably the closest thing, but I don't believe that was driving hardware all that much).

good point.  at least this year is looking up.  wii sports resort was really fun and i'm really looking forward to NSMBwii.

it will have about the same effect or a little more than the 360s price cuts

i dont think will see a wii price cut this year though

next year is more likely b/c thats wen the HDs should have there motion on that would be a better time for the wii to cut there price

Agree with kitler and demotruk. Wii's sales now are definitely the result of a lack of third party software. That being said, I still imagine that a price cut would still have a major impact on sales.
