they are different. not enough for me to really care one way or the other. i enjoy all of them whether they be mario, kirby, sonic, or whathaveyou.

Yes. The 3D ones aren't ridiculously dfficult to play nowadays (not that I xpect NSMBW to be too bad)



No. It's just that 3D mario tends to have not as amazing content. Its more difficult to navigate and the cameras generally suck(I have played SMG). It's far too long in between great set pieces and doesn't maintain interest as well because of it.

3d Mario adds the element of free exploration while 2d Mario tends to focus on direct challenges that happen in a linear method.
