Nothing..................honestly Nintendo has been "doomed" so long and have remained doing nothing, and are still on top. As for your prediction of a huge announcement in October........I don't see what. E3 2010 will do all of the huge announcements this year for them but...........they could announce upcoming 3Ds games? More Wii Vitality? Old franchise revived? Or perhaps it's not an announcement but a release from an announcement confirming a release. Yea I'll just stop here.

They have to strenghthen the hardcore profile of the Wii

To invest in more media and advertaising for the traditional games

Give more support to litlle studios with good games ( see Litle king story).

Be more strict with the quality of the games.

Create a Player choice line like in GC times

To create controlls with Wii motion plus integrated and nunchuck without cable

Recover old sagas and create some news

Release a new model With more memory

To cut the price of the sytem and controlls

To get more exclusive games with more frequency

etc..

Another thing to do...

To do packs of the Wii with a bundle copy of the great games
