Forums - Microsoft - Natal is about “winning” this generation, says Kim

Natal. It’s not a camera. It’s not a motion sensor. It’s not a knee-jerk reaction to Wii. According to Xbox super-chief Shane Kim, Natal is about bringing “hundreds of millions” of players to Xbox 360 - and winning this console generation.

“The generation isn’t over, and we’re not winning yet,” Kim told OXM.

“Our goal is to win, always has been. We want to have hundreds of millions of customers, whether that’s on 360 or on Live, and that’s our vision. That’s what Project Natal is about.

“Natal is not about responding to Nintendo and what they do with Wii, it goes well beyond what Nintendo and Sony are doing.

“This is about unlocking the potential and breaking down all the barriers that remain that prevent people who are intimidated or feel awkward with a controller in their hand - anything that prevents them from jumping in and having a great time with Xbox 360 and Xbox Live.”

You go, Shane. Natal’s expected toward the end of next year.

No kidding.

I predict that this will be the most epic fail product this gen. To put so much marketing and hype on this product as a megaton generation changer, is just bound to fail. It can't possibly live up to the hype.

ergh right microsoft, best of luck with that.

Anything microsoft or sony do is "too little, too late" to win this generation........nintendo has won public mindshare & is soo far ahead now, its silly to even debate winning for microsoft or the mighty beloved legendary SONY!!!!!!!!!!!

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

A little late to make any significant impact.

Its just marketing crap.
I only posted it as I thought it was quite funny really.

MS won't win this gen, but Natal will be a HUGE success. The way the mainstream-media jumped on Natal was crazy. And it is truely revolutionary.

Natal might secure 2nd place this gen.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

They should be able to cement 2nd place with it, and compete more effectively with Wii, but Natal isn't going to bring "hundreds of millions" of new 360 owners in. I'm still worried about the lack of any type of physical controller-I think people will want something more tactile when interacting with games.

And Microsoft's PR is again bringing out Nintendo-esque lines, and they say this isn't about responding to Wii or what Nintendo have done? Natal IS Microsoft's response to Wii. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's a knee jerk reaction, but it is very clearly a response to Wii and Nintendo.

This hype doesn't do anything for me. I want software and more public demonstrations of the device.

Natal will ensure the 360 beats the PS3.
Quote me on that.

Lol, it's just marketing crap, I hope they don't actually expect to win.

I blame Wii Fit...+!!!
