I really don't think these things actually matter ... The DS has (generally speaking) had a very modest marketing campaign since it was released 5 years ago and is (almost) always the best selling system.

I checked all the Ad flyers today and no mention what so ever of the PS3 slim. I only saw an advertisement for the 160GB getting a price drop with an asterix next to it saying :"Check website for more details". Yes they had big ad for the Elite price drop to $299.

I was like "WTF?! Where is mention of the slim?".\

Even in GH5 ads it shows the 360 and nothing about PS3 except for box art.

I walked into a Gamestop 2 days ago and they had a "Nintendo Wii... We have some in stock!" All over the place with a single Slim ad in the corner. I guess it depends on where you go.

Indeed, my local Best Buy flyer has the new Elite price drop on the front page and several more pages inside. No Wii, No Slim, and No handhelds others. Probably just a coincidence.
