| theprof00 said: here is a good translation which actually follows a good reading of how the days of creation could have been kept in good standing with science. The First Day The first recorded Words of God that we have are "Let there be light" (Genesis 1:3 NIV). The sun was already shining brightly, but God made the earth's thick new atmosphere allow diffuse light to penetrate to the surface. And so it was that the light was made separate from darkness. The first day of earth's creation was literally the first "day" as someone on earth's surface would experience it - a period of opaque light, and a period of darkness. (Genesis 1:3-5) The Second Day The separation of the waters. There was yet no liquid water, no oceans. All of the water was in the form of a vapor, a worldwide super-fog, extending a number of kilometers/miles up from the very hot (above the boiling temperature of water) bare-rock earth's surface (the earth's core remains molten right to the present day). God's "hovering over the waters" in verse 2 describes His being above that gaseous-water atmosphere, not a liquid ocean. God then caused most of the water to condense onto the cooling earth which simultaneously formed a whole-planet ocean and cleared the sky. (Genesis 1:6-8) Earth The Third Day The first appearance of dry ground. The further cooling of the surface set in motion a process of natural contraction, uplifting and motion of the crust (the process continues today, called "plate tectonics"). The earth changed from a smooth one-level molten "cue ball" to a planet with an irregular surface with ocean basins and continental landmasses. With dry ground available, the first plants were made to grow in great abundance. (Genesis 1:9-13) The Fourth Day With the sky now clear, the sun, moon and stars were dependably visible. They were to "serve as signs to mark seasons and days and years." The sun marked the day (sunset to sunset), the moon the month (new moon to new moon), and the stars the seasons (constellations are seen in particular seasons e.g. "Orion" is visible in winter in the northern hemisphere, which is summer in the southern hemisphere). (Genesis 1:14-19) The Fifth Day Great numbers of birds and sea creatures. God blessed them and said, "Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth." (Genesis 1:20-23) The Sixth Day Vast numbers of land animals. Man. From the man, woman (humans today are just now discovering how to genetically alter fertilized embryos, and even to create one human from the tissue of another - known as "cloning"). (Genesis 1:24-31) The Seventh Day The Sabbath Day. "By the seventh day God had finished the work He had been doing; so on the seventh day He rested from all His work. And God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it He rested [or ceased] from all the work of creating that He had done." The day that is the basis for The Fourth Commandment. (Genesis 2:2-3) The question of whether the seven days of creation were literal days, or symbolic of stages of development is actually irrelevant to the undeniable reality that Creation happened. The observable universe, the earth beneath our feet, and every one of us exist. Who needs more proof than that? so please...it could have been done, the church and it's followers just decided that this actually happened in 7 earth days, instead of maintaining that the bible is full of parables and metaphors. |
Ah I love stuff like this, see God is a being that is infinite, he lives forever and therefore a day in creating to him could very well be like ages for beings as ourselves. We as people only see our own reality and take things so seriously/literal that most can not even fathom what it must be like for beings other then ourselves, time is a perception, a day to us is the sun rising, setting, and then rising again, if we were on another planet our 24 hours would not be a "day" there it would be a fraction, so what is a "day" for God?
If God takes a rest on his seventh day of work he wants us to take our seventh day off work to rest but our days (in comparison to Gods) may not be the same literal day as many precieve it.

yeah i know max it's all bullshit.
But at least a message like this could have made fanaticals seem less, well....fanatical, and in line with the ideas of evolution.

I remember reading a short article about how a Muslim country(can't recall the name) banned Pokemon due to it "corrupting the minds of its youths."
If Pokemon is of the devil, he's had my soul for going on 10 years now.
Pixel Art can be fun.
If you knew the truth, you'd be really surprised. I'm definitely not going to bother telling you, as anybody would, simply because it's pointless. But let me just say that, almost everything is "of the Devil" in some degree, so keep your blissful ignorance in tact and preserve your happiness. Seek good intent in your actions.

You'll need to explain this one to me.
I know what he's talking about.
At least I think I do. My father is quite a religious zealot, and he has explained that nearly everything you do is the work of some spirit working through you. He has said that the Bible analogizes the body to an inn (hotel), where hundreds of spirits reside and do their actions through you.
For example: smoking is from a spirit. Of course there isn't tobacco in the spiritual world, or any other kind of smoked material, so the only way is to use your body to smoke, thereby getting a kind of contact high.
Heaven is simply being one with truth, near complete knowledge, faith, courage, understanding and love. Hell, is not flames, it is isolation, darkness, doubt, fear, and ignorance.
Now, the devil, so to say, is anything that a) pulls your attention away from God, or keeps you from acting in a jesus like manner. That being said, you can still play video games, as long as you do not idolize it, almost like how some of us do (myself included), and as long as you interact in a jesuslike manner ie, using it as a teaching tool, helping others discover truths through games and the like.
However, most of everything we do is turning away from God (aka: the truth). Following false truths, movies, video games, ignorance, politics... or idolizing something like food, a person, money, a company (nintendo/miyamoto fans, looking at you :P), is turning away from that, which is the devil.
The reason I brought up the first part about spirits, is because the first thing that you can do as a person of God, is to cast out spirits. If you cannot cast out spirits, you are following the devil, ie, ignorant of the truth. Like I said everything you do is because of a spirit, and you are supposed to be able to stop doing any activity at any time, if it is judged to be harmful or ignorant of God.
The list goes on and on and on about what it satanic or not. Basically it boils down to harming yourself or anyone else, to even the smallest amounts. Biting your nails, to masochism, to homosexuality.
I don't necessarily believe in any of this. I believe God is simply a pattern. It's like the games in the newspaper that show several ropes all tangled and twirled together and you have to find the one that "wins". Ergo, the pattern of God is one in several billion ropes. Your pour in "light" and you get life as we know it.
For example, a molecule of something can combine with any other molecule, but they don't result in much usefulness in any rope beside the correct one. Only when hydrogen combines with oxygen, do you get water. Of course, that would only be 1 in 144 ropes, since there are 144 elements that we know of right? Well, it's at least triple that because there needs to actually be Oxygen and Hydrogen present. Now, say this one rope in 432 branches off into another 432 where another 2 very important molecules need to be able to form. Following this model, there is only one truth throughout everything that exists. That is God, it is not a person, per se, but a pattern of everything. I think it's pretty much the most scientific stance on religion there is, it is descriptive, not prescriptive, and it allows for other religions and cultures because out of the infinite number of ropes or so, other races were formed and ideas were created.

This is not entirely true. A large number of Christians (I would say the majority, though the beaurocracy is slow to catch up) recognise that the Bible's seven days of creation are not in any way a literal set of seven twenty four hour periods.
I certainly feel the Bible's reference to these days is a metaphorical reference to God's creation of human beings through a process of evolution.
starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS
Keep your faith close to your heart, and don't merge with machines. Value your pure humanity, and believe in forgiveness. If you keep that in mind it's okay, even at this day and age.
If you feel you can resist, don't be microchipped.
