I know what he's talking about.
At least I think I do. My father is quite a religious zealot, and he has explained that nearly everything you do is the work of some spirit working through you. He has said that the Bible analogizes the body to an inn (hotel), where hundreds of spirits reside and do their actions through you.
For example: smoking is from a spirit. Of course there isn't tobacco in the spiritual world, or any other kind of smoked material, so the only way is to use your body to smoke, thereby getting a kind of contact high.
Heaven is simply being one with truth, near complete knowledge, faith, courage, understanding and love. Hell, is not flames, it is isolation, darkness, doubt, fear, and ignorance.
Now, the devil, so to say, is anything that a) pulls your attention away from God, or keeps you from acting in a jesus like manner. That being said, you can still play video games, as long as you do not idolize it, almost like how some of us do (myself included), and as long as you interact in a jesuslike manner ie, using it as a teaching tool, helping others discover truths through games and the like.
However, most of everything we do is turning away from God (aka: the truth). Following false truths, movies, video games, ignorance, politics... or idolizing something like food, a person, money, a company (nintendo/miyamoto fans, looking at you :P), is turning away from that, which is the devil.
The reason I brought up the first part about spirits, is because the first thing that you can do as a person of God, is to cast out spirits. If you cannot cast out spirits, you are following the devil, ie, ignorant of the truth. Like I said everything you do is because of a spirit, and you are supposed to be able to stop doing any activity at any time, if it is judged to be harmful or ignorant of God.
The list goes on and on and on about what it satanic or not. Basically it boils down to harming yourself or anyone else, to even the smallest amounts. Biting your nails, to masochism, to homosexuality.
I don't necessarily believe in any of this. I believe God is simply a pattern. It's like the games in the newspaper that show several ropes all tangled and twirled together and you have to find the one that "wins". Ergo, the pattern of God is one in several billion ropes. Your pour in "light" and you get life as we know it.
For example, a molecule of something can combine with any other molecule, but they don't result in much usefulness in any rope beside the correct one. Only when hydrogen combines with oxygen, do you get water. Of course, that would only be 1 in 144 ropes, since there are 144 elements that we know of right? Well, it's at least triple that because there needs to actually be Oxygen and Hydrogen present. Now, say this one rope in 432 branches off into another 432 where another 2 very important molecules need to be able to form. Following this model, there is only one truth throughout everything that exists. That is God, it is not a person, per se, but a pattern of everything. I think it's pretty much the most scientific stance on religion there is, it is descriptive, not prescriptive, and it allows for other religions and cultures because out of the infinite number of ropes or so, other races were formed and ideas were created.
