Yes maybe we are too late. But let sales do the talking.
I hope that in the future there's still room for HD gaming.

Somebody is obvioulsy feeling butt-hurt by this thread. |
Not at all, I thought this was a "What makes you happy?" thread.
Nov 2016 - NES outsells PS1 (JP)
Don't Play Stationary 4 ever. Switch!
Free Radical, Factor 5 and Grin would like a word.
HD consoles/games will be a standar in the next gen. Why you worry?
Do you think the games will be made in future with less quality? I don't think so.

Don't be mean, guys. This is a thread about feeling good about HD gaming. Not about real pro or cons.
In the wilderness we go alone with our new knowledge and strength.

They finally started making profit, so they cut the price again. It is very likely that the $299 Slim is losing money again, or at least doesn't bring significant profit. Of course they wouldn't discontinue it right now, when they are so close to finally making some profit, but this generation will be ultimately in the red, eliminating the profits earned in the PS2 generation. And if, let's say, PS4 will also start with PS3-like numbers, while losing money, in it's first year, I can imagine Sony saying "Oh no, not this shit again!!!" and unplug the whole thing.

Its also very possible that the PS brand will be profitable from now on and recoup the losses already made.
And lets say that the PS4 starts out with Wii like numbers while costing only $300 to make and $400 to purchase in store giving Sony a big profit on each one, they will say that all of the bumbs and bruises endured during the previous gen was worth it.

And this will happen, because:
A) Every hardcore gamer will buy three PS4s to support the company... or
B) The Wii Soccer Moms will turn into hardcore gamers, expanding its audience... or
C) They will have a more Wi-like approach?
Anyways, bright future for hardcore gaming... NOT!

The Wii is not getting beaten with 49% market share.

Its just as likely to happen as your scenario, you just didnt like it because it was the opposite of wht you want to happen. BTW it doesnt take a PS3 or a 360 to be a hardcore gamer, there are plenty of Wii hardcore gamers. The people are what is hardcore not the games or the consoles.

Wrong.
Just because "Hardcore" doesnt do well on the Wii, doesnt mean that "Hardcore" doesnt have a bright future.
