Forums - Gaming - 10 men who changed the gaming industry forever....

Name one platforming game on the Atari that involved a scrolling screen and predated Super Mario Bros. Go ahead.

I did not say he invented it, I said he "was responsible for the importance of motion control as we know it today". How exactly is that fallacious in any way? He designed the Wii Remote, is responsible for Wii Sports, and in general was the guy who put it in th hands of fifty million buyers and well over a hundred million people.

Rhythm games and music games (or just music game, I don't know of any music game that isn't Wii Music) are very different - music is a lot more than just rhythm. That's part of what Wii Music goes out of its way to exemplify.

Now how about you stop trying to oversimplify the matter at hand and actually address the point of how you could possibly come to the conclusion that Miyamoto doesn't drive the industry forward?

Kaz Hirai? J. Allard? Ted Price? No Sid Meier in sight? Terrible fucking list.

Anyway, my top 10 would be:

1-10. Gabe Newell (he's that fat)

I hope you're happy... I nearly died from choking on water :(

Well, then I'm nearly happy!

What's nearly happy? I mean happy is an emotion, so you're either happy or you're not. You could be happy for a while only to be dissapointed at the climatic moment of my not-death in which case you've expirience a let-down and are not happy.

What you say is technically true, but as I'm an optimist, I choose to think of this as being "nearly happy."

Firstly, Pullus, you marked two different statements with the same color. The statement to which I referred was motion controls: do not mistake that for anything to do with niche games. They are separated by two paragraphs. You should be able to gather that I am talking about two separate things. You see? He's responsible for the state of motion controls in the industry. He did not invent them. He constantly invents new niches. I don't know why I have to repeat this. I have said it twice now.

I'm not familiar with Moon Portal and Karateka, but Pitfall was not a sidescroller. You move from one screen to another. That wasp art of what made Super Mario Bros. so revolutionary: the entire level was one continuous screen that you scrolled through.

This is a rhythm game - possible a puzzler. It is not a music game.

How much Wii Music have you played, exactly?

And don't try ad hominem dismissals with me, you need to get specific.

wait a second where is hideo Kojima??? how can u ignore him??? F A I L!!!

So much for a stupid list.

Also, the only way you can play with music is with real instruments or if you sing well, games have to much limitations and are just simulators of the real thing, to pretend a game is gonna offer the same feeling is lying.

Over the games Ive played that have music as their main feature(Im not gonna get into the rithym vs music game argument since I find it very stupid) rockband is the best one for me, rithym is important for the instruments, letting you do some improvisation in drum fillings and guitar endings too. The singing part is the most musical for me, you have to stick to the notes though, it could be said that this is a restriction but it makes people that sing badly to stay away cause those people shouldnt be allowed to be singing.

The last paragraph isnt very important in the context of the thread, but I like talking about rockband :P

This guys is insaine about the things he said about Miyamoto.

but

It seems hes right about the side scrolling thing. The game hes talking about is Moon Patrol. I used to play that on my 2600, fun game. Moon Patrol was one of the earliest linear side-scrolling shoot'em ups and the first arcade game to feature parallax scrolling. Strait from Wiki. And i know it says arcade but i played this game and it is a side scroller and it came out in 82.

I have read, forums, and heard others talk on podcasts about Nintendo inventing parallax scrolling, but it seems they didnt.

But come on Moon Patrol vs Super Mario Bros...Lol

Its funny to see how people think of him as a god or something like that.

I remember a guy that called me an idiot because I didnt worship him. xD, it sounded like some religious guys I had arguments with.
