Forums - Nintendo - Sega talks about sales

300,000 shipped...they get ~$22/copy as its still selling at full price. Sega considers it a success (either profitable, break even or near profitable I'd say)....makes me think development costs were $3m-$4m given that it probably had an advertising campaign of a few million.

For some stupid reason I don't purchase any 3rd party games for my wii. I own almost 20 games for the wii and its all 1st party. I got change that because I do LOVE my wii.

As I've stated, such titles sell better on the HD systems because they get marketed more aggressively, but because those games NEED the higher sales. Wii games cost less, so they can still make a profit. Note Sega said "disappointed" with Madworld. They did NOT say it was a flop.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

I'm not sure we can apply this model to The Conduit though; considering how the game was self-funded, with no publishers being brought in until late in development, odds are high that the distribution between the dev and publisher is different than with most titles. At the same time, Sega probably didn't contribute much outside of marketing and distribution (not insignificant costs), so they may be happy while HVS is less so. Not saying that's the case, but I feel it needs to be thrown out there.

 Buy Little King's Story!

Whatever The Conduit sells, it could reach a shipment of over 500 000 to stores. That could be good enough profit for Sega and HVS.

At 300k it has profited (less approx retailer fee) about $12m. I bet 40-50% of that went back to HVS.

I'm sure both have profited. 500k might be life time shipped, so it was a very good investment.

I bet SEGA picks up grinder under the same conditions. HVS is smart to try and focus on 100% internal dev costs, so they can get bigger % of payout.

Well I said from the beginning that Madworld was going to be hard sale... on any platform. It's hard to imagine it could have done any better on PS360. Bloody hack and slash with a black and white art style... that's a hard sale to anyone other than the loyal followers of the industry.

Good to see Conduit sales are going smoothly.

I would charge more of the low sales on the short length of the game than platform or art style personally. 3 hour game for full price? No thanks.

That interviewer really wanted Sega to say something negative about the Wii.

SEGA!

I LOVE ICELAND!

Good to know that they're pleased, though i would also like to see their financial results
