Forums - Nintendo - Monster Hunter 3 now confirmed to be Wii exclusive

well the reason is obvious, if it was because of cost they never would have announced it for PS3 in the first place. It wasn't until after Wii became so successful that they changed.

If you think FFXIII, the next in a line of dissapointing instalments in the Final Fantasy franchise is going to be all the PS3 needs, then keep on dreaming. You don't have another FF7 on your hands here. Square-Enix, as everyone has pointed out, has lost the bulk of its talent since then and is riding the FF main series down the hole. FFXIII will sell well, but not well enough, it won't even come close to FFXII numbers.

Sorry, but if your definition of fan is "I only like the game if it's on this console" and "I'll judge the game to be worse on this console than another based on nothing but HD graphics" then I have very little respect for you. If you are insulted by being compared to Soriku then aren't you the one insulting Soriku? A fan cares about the game, not the game system. They certainly don't judge the game to be worse due to game system long before it's release. You are far from my definition of a fan.

What does it have anything to do with Soriku?

So, my definition of a fan is different from yours, I respect that.

MH3 was previously announced to be released on PS3 and we were expecting Capcom to deliver at least 720p graphics.  It's shocking to us that Capcom made such announcement.  Call me graphic whore as you like but it doesn't change the fact that Wii can only do 480p and it only look so so on big screen HDTV.

It (PS3's market share) might hit 30%, but definently not more. ~ Neo

@girlgamer

All of the FF that came out when a "new System launched" have been the best:

FF7 - first PS

FF10 - First PS2

FF13 - First Ps3

I think it will be very good

WII - 18.3 Million

Playstation 3 - 8.5 Million

final fantasy 6 shoots that in the face. And the fact that the entire series has been in a decline just mean XIV and XV will suck even harder.

I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree on our definitions then.

I actually searched for this to post a question...

Why does Capcom base the decision on "price to develop" then move to the Wii?

Could you not still develop it for the PS3 using only the PPU and RSX and still come out better looking than the Wii? I think so. In fact, I know so. The excuse that it's too expensive to develop for is BS and a cop-out to hide that real reason for the switch. Install base.

I won't argue that the PS3 is harder to get the most out of it, but I will argue that you could easily do Monster hunter on the PS3 and make it "good enough" and better looking than the Wii graphically. You don't have to create MGS, Haze, or Killzone quality graphics just to produce a PS3 game. There's plenty of power there without touching the SPUs, and as someone who has done Cell development, the SPU is nothing more than an additional core for a "simple" process. The one PPU and RSX is more than enough for a Monster Hunter type game.

I just hate being lied to. Enjoy your thread.

With how much of a focus there is on graphics from PS3 fans do you think a company feels comfortable producing a game with modest graphics on the PS3? Lair got 10 times the level of hype that it should have because it looked really good in screenshots, and if I was Capcom I'd be afraid that a shitty game with pretty graphics would take attention away from one of the best IPs I had.

@HappySqurriel: I'd argue that it's not PS3 fans bickering about games with sub-par graphics.  It would be those that are trying to find reasons to beat on the Playstation 3.  I can't think of many posts started by PS fans that say: "the graphics suck!!11!!!" but I guarantee I'll find a post by a competitor's fan.

Also, you can make a game that looks good without using all the advanced techniques.  Especially with Monster Hunter which from my experience is pretty "cartoony" and doesn't require real high end effects.

It seems the mods need help with this forum.  I have zero tolerance for trolling, platform criticism (Rule 4), and poster bad-mouthing (Rule 3.4) and you will be reported.

Review before posting: http://vgchartz.com/forum/rules.php

Remember during the N64/PS1 days, where developers were encouraged to "Go 3D?" How Castlevania: Symphony of the Night was looked down upon by Sony because it used sprites and 2D graphics?

There are a few console features that manufacturers want you to pump and pimp out. Look how nuts people got when the PS3 version of Madden had a lower framerate than the 360 version. If you make a PS3 game, you need to pimp the Cell and Blu-ray. And they would rather spend the money tweaking and maximizing their Wii engine than making a half-baked PS3 engine that will get cries of "these graphics sucks I bet the Wii could do it!" And hurt sales due to bad press.

But sure, Capcom lied. They want to put their franchises on systems with larger userbases. Just like they lied about the Capcom 5. Capcom is after profit and they think it's on the Wii. So they're going there.

(Sorry for the shotgun post here.)

There is no such thing as a console war. This is the first step to game design.
