I don't know if you remember well, but the first shipment, before the launch was 1 million of units. Two weeks past launch and the game still hasn't sold it yet. For a game of the caliber of MH3 (that carried the hope of expand the hardcore audience of the Wii), it's a bomb.

Just hopes that it goes better in the Overseas.

BTW, what was the Capcom expectations?

This is funny. Monster Hunter 3 is on track to outsell all other third party home console games in Japan this generation in three weeks on the market. Not only this, but there is reason to believe that the bundles are being sold out and THAT is why sales are so low and will be low until the next shipment. This is Japan buddy, to reach a million is an amazing feat, and it will most likely hit that mark. Also don't expect anything close to this level or better in the West.  So NO the game didn't get anywhere close to bombing.

Edit: Actually it just passed Metal Gear Solid 4 as the best selling third party game on home consoles in Japan.

Different games have different expectations. MH3 was hyped, and have really great production values. It had 3 types of bundles, and a standalone version. If the costumers cannot find the bundle one, they don't care to pay a bit more to get it soon (we are talking about people that would have bought a new console only for the game, the same ones that buy new games only for a 30 minutes demo). And now there are big chains dropping 60% of the price (10 days after launch) since the game is not selling by any means (comparing to their, Capcom and stores expectations).

As I said before, it is a bomb. FOR A MH GAME.

So because it didn't meet YOUR expectations it bombed? LOL That is how we determine "bombs" now. Anyway it is the best selling console Monster Hunter, and it's a failure for the series?

Are you reading what I've being posting, or just trying to being an a*s because I don't agree with you?

How about you clarify your stance. First you say that it is a bomb because it doesn't sell it's shipment. Then you say it is a bomb for a totally different reason, that it didn't sell as well as other monster hunters(which isn't true btw. It didn't sell as much as the PSP versions. It did sell more than the PS2 versions though, which is also the versions better to compare it with.) As far as I see it, you are one of the few people who thought this game was going to sell anywhere near the psp versions, and that is why you go over the top and say it bombed. So which is it?

Imo a game isn't a bomb unless the sales do a few things. Either the developer loses money or doesn't make too much(which definately doesn't seem like the case here), or the developer themselves are unhappy with the sales. Capcom just sold a million copies of monster hunter 3, I'm sure they are happy, because it is almost certain they already made a good profit.  So it seems to be you are in a very small group who is unhappy with your the sales. I challenged your opinion, which is what people do on internet forums. So please go ahead any explain how I'm being an a*s because I analyzed your posts with the best of my reading comprehension. Maybe I should put that in question because there is obviously something I'm missing.

So you missed the part that I talked about the Capcom's expectations of 2 mil MH3 sold in the fiscal year, right?

I don't see how that qualifies it as a bomb. Publishers "expectations" are more in line with predictions , not hopes. Even if they did predict 2 million by the defintion I consider a bomb(since I'm the only person in this thread who defined it I will go by that) that isn't valid. They could be happy with a million, even if it isn't their initial prediction. Also please link me to where they said that. I would love to know when they made this prediction, and whether they meant shipped or sold.(Publishers care much more about shipped because to them that IS sold.)

I thought you have seen my previous posts in this topic before to criticize me... Well, I was wrong. Search and you will find the link.

Found the link, and as expected it was shipped. Their prediction still seems off. I expect around 1.1-1.3 million Japanese sales LTD. The shipment will probably be around 1.4 - 1.6m, also LTD. So yes there prediction is still way off, but there are many predictions by publishers that end up being far from what happens. Also it was the word "bomb" that really got me carried away. It may be lower than expected, but definately not a bomb. To be honest, far from it. Any game that makes a considerable profit, and this is definately one of them, doesn't bomb. Especially a game like this that doesn't only make a considerable profit, but continues to make one (Online Subscription).

I wasn't really trying to criticize you, but more so argue against your opinion. Sometimes I get carried away. Sorry if I felt hostile.

DOUBLE POST!!!

I read that whole retarded thread. *sigh*

OF COURSE it didn't bomb, as it is a record selling game of its platform, a decent example of its franchise, and a profitable game.

OF COURSE it will sell 1 million, that many copies were already ordered.
Now, unless retailers pull an E.T., and burn them all (and even selling them for $1, or bundling them with other games, Wiis, would be better than that), they will somehow get rid of them. (although it is still likely that the game will sell 1mill on its own).

OF COURSE it was a bit disappointing for some, mostly Wii fans, who hoped for 2mill, or 1,5 mill LTD, that now seems unlikely. But this is the sales forum, a place for objective analysis, and not for personal preferences

Best third party selling console game in JP this gen and it's a bomb? What a world :)

Didn't we get over it in other thread that sales are low because bundles are sold out/near sold out and that most people don't want the standalone? Next week is Obon and they should be shipping more bundles. Sales should stay steady. Did everyone decide to ignore that because it's a new thread so now they're allowed to troll more?

Amazing.

Putting this qualifier on it is kinda funny.

Of course the game sold great for a third party game on a console, but in comparison to recent entries in the series.....

The numbers aren't very good. I think everyone thought it would do better.

"We'll toss the dice however they fall,
And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

Check out MyAnimeList and my Game Collection. Owner of the 5 millionth post.

What a sad thread.. I was expecting everyone to go hectic over the hardware numbers not on whether or not Monster hunter 3 bombed (which is fucking crazy its sold over 700k in just 9 days in Japan alone, how the heck is that a bomb)

This isn't surprising though. For a while now it has been obvious that it won't sell as much as the PSP entries. What wasn't so obvious was how it would sell in comparison to other console versions, and from what we observed it has excelled in that area.
