I've never played fusion (I know I know...) but I've heard that Ridley is gone for good.

Is this true? Apparantly he had a "splitting" headache... (pun!)

If that is true... consider me one sad panda.

EDIT of "Duh!": Cloning... nevermind.

He was frozen in a chamber in Fusion and you fight him and he dies but I am still not sure if he's dead. He was in Prime and Prime 3 so I am not sure. Maybe.

The events of Metroid Prime 1 and 3 happen before Fusion.

Pixel Art can be fun.

Nintendo rarely thinks about these things. If they did, we would have a definite Zelda time line.Nintendo usually thinks of gameplay first and then they add the story that is needed to achieve that gameplay. Maybe Other M wasn't fitting of being a continuation of fusion? Also the Prime Series' story was probably not made to give them time to think of a how they will continue the story after fusion. It probably was due to the perspective change they also would want to make it a side-story to tell that the main series and other perspectives aren't done yet. You could even see this with Fusion and Prime releasing close together. So I think Nintendo just didn't think of a game that will be fitting of following fusion yet, and it isn't because they can't think of a story.

Now Other M does feel like a prequel to fusion. Adam Malkovich being there has to mean something. They probably didn't put him in it just for him to be there. I expect that there will be a lot of foreshadowing to the events that happen in fusion as well. This makes it exciting because we will get more of the back story of fusion, and then maybe soon there will be a continuation.

So you're hoping Other M is just a space filler for Metroid 5?

Well I never think of metroid main stories as amazing, though the backstories are quite interesting. You could think of it that way, but I would think of it as developing both the characters, and the overall series. Developing stories are just important as continuing them imo(though it is weird to see that in metroid). No it won't be a filler in the sense of lesser quality(like most would think), but it will fill in what is missing in terms of developement. To be honest though, I care more about atmoshphere and exploration in my metroid games than stories.

@Snesboy Prime and Prime 3 take place before fusion.

To be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if they never made a Metroid game that takes place after Fusion. As you say, it's fully possible that they have indeed written themselves into a corner.

The Metroid Fusion' history did't like to me.

That's why Nintendo cant continue with th timeline history.

Would'nt you be a sad hedgehog?

Ah, good catch... but I'm afraid we're both wrong.

I'd be one sad Echidna... but then again, Ridley lives on in our hearts (and as the second to last boss in like every Metroid game ever. )

Timelines? PAH! I eat timelines and poop them out.

I dare say that Nintendo has thought just as much about how everything slots in. See also: Zelda.

Exactly. Nintendo wouldn't let some silly notion of linear time get in the way of a good game.Just look at the debate in this thread over whether or not Ridley is dead. He's been killed a bajillion times by now but he's never dead because he's so damn fun to fight.

Yes, i hate timelines

I always assumed that the Ridley you fought in Fusion was a clone of a clone, the X-Parasite re-working of a clone of the original that the Federation had stored at the Labs.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Who cares. Metroid has always been about Samus fighting a badass enemy. Everything else is unnesessary.

I LOVE ICELAND!

You know, they can always just reboot the series, a la Tomb Raider.
