Forums - Gaming - What should I get, PS3 or 360? (From a Wii owner)

You're right, it was poorly designed; but I think the recent fixes have gone a long way to address the problems. Make sure you get a system made after May, though (which shouldn't be too hard, since the vast majority of older consoles should be gone with the recent sales spkes).

I used to not feel totally confident with the machines ability to not overheat on me, but since I got a new console (gave old one to my brother), I haven't had one single problem. You're right though, MS is paying big time for thier mistakes originally in design.

I wish Microsoft would come out with a statement, if the current design changes should correct the RRoD issues. Maybe they are just waiting to clear out the inventory of old systems before then. A statement before the holidays would reassure of a lot of potential buyers.

I have 2 friends that have gotten the red ring of death. One of them NEVER turns the system off. No matter what time I go online, he is online- even when he's at work. The other bought his 360 used. He'd take the system everywhere. He'd gotten his system months before me, and when he brought it to my house so I could play, he set the system up on my shag carpet. The RRoD wasn't even a big deal then, but I knew that system was doomed. Treat your $400 purchase like it costs FOUR HUNDRED DOLLARS and you probably won't have any problems if you go with the 360.

d21lewis: Or, you can read thousands of people who treat it well with the same problem.

Although, for me, the choice is clear: If you don't mind the potential risk of breaking over and over, 360. Most solid lineup. If you don't mind watching Blu-Ray movies and saying the good games are comming soon, buy a Ps3. Has a good up and comming line up.

See Ya George.

Thats about the worst thing you can do... I´m not doing any big moves with my 360 eather, with the power cable its a little to heavy and spacy to carry arround... but I don´t care, if friends are over we can play co-op games but if I go to someone I´d rather bring the Wii anyway since it more fun with 2+ players IMO.

@Fuzz: Right now if you get your 360 fixed chances are very slim it will break again, poeple should know that it might break but since MS will repair it for free and newer models are very reliable I don´t see why it should be a factor against the system, you should only count what really matters for ALL consoles not what might happen.

I have the same problem, I have a Wii but will buy a second console (like I had a PS2 next to my GC). I bought the PS2 for the RPG's (PS1 and 2) the rest I played on my gamecube.
I think of the coming holiday Wii has by far the best line-up (Zack & Wiki, SMG, SSBB, Manhunt2, Ghost Squad and my favorite Fire Emblem) and there are RPG's and andventures enough in the future, so my second console this time has to be for the "hardcore" games like Splinter Cell, Assasins Creed, racers (GT5 or Forza) football games (FIFA or PES) (yes it's called football, you play it with your feet, while American Football is played mostly with your hands so it should be called something like Rugby for sissies)

It looks like the 360 has the best line-up now with Bioshock, Blue Dragon, Fable 2 (1 was cool but too short, finished it under 12 hours), Lost Odyssee and Splinter Cell exclusive and PS3 remains to be seen. But FFXIII might be great again (although I hated XII) and Kingdom Hearts migh come to PS3.

So a tough decision, does anyone know whether 360 has more RPGs and adventures coming? Or does PS3 will upgrade the level of its games, also the multiplats which look better on 360 right now.

Maybe I'll better wait another year and enjoy my Wii. Which fanboy can change my mind?

I got my 360 in Feb 06 and haven't had any problems with it. I've left it on all night a few times. Key is, I've only moved it once.

That being said, I would get a 360. There are more games out for it and more exclusive titles. If you prefer sports games, the framerate is much better on the 360. Also, a lot of developers are developing games for the 360 first and then the PS3 almost as an afterthought.

I don't think you'd be disappointed with either one - there is no wrong decision here, but as many have stated before, make a list of all the upcoming games for both systems and see which list appeals to you more.

The Last Remnant and Infinite Undiscovery (dumbest. name. ever.) are coming from SE next year for the 360.

Also check out Too Human. It looks like a 3D Diablo-type adventurer from Silicon Knights. There is footage floating around the interweb now.

You also forgot to mention Mass Effect.

Yeah and every time you enter a city you are going to change the disk. The game is going to be 50 gigabytes big, and since Square-enix has said that the game makes good use of the advantages that Blu-ray offers...

Anyway, I would wait until January 2008. I'm also going to do the same.

That's not how split discs work.  The thing that takes up the most space on the discs are pointless CG screens that could be done with the in game graphics.  You could most likely put the entire game on one CD with about half of the CG movies.   Then put it again on a second disc with the other half of CG Movies.

So you won't have to change discs when you go into new cities.  You'll just have to switch discs when you get through the first half of CG movies.  This is how it's always been... anyone who's actually played a JRPG in the days of split discs would know this.

That said. If you NEED Final Fantasy 13, I don't see why you'd risk it with a 360.  Though i'd still wait on a PS3.  Since i'd be surprised if it was out before 2009.

You should know what you want. I think overall 360 is a better system to get but if you are a fan of FF/MGS you should go with PS3. Do you have a HD TV, then the blu ray movies may be worth it for you (though I think my dvds look great on a upscaled dvd player). If you care about older games the 360 will give you the opportunity to play some of the XBOX titles you never go to play. A lot of multiplatform games come out first on the 360(from a few weeks to a month difference, with exception of the timed exclusives) so that may mean somthing to you. If money is a matter to you you can get a 360 with 3 games for the same price of the PS3 with a movie(when the christmas bundles/models come out). Go to the store and see which system has more games that you want. I say go 360, but take in all the info before purchasing.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.
