Also even if Blu-ray wins i'd expecet Microsoft to pull out a Blu-Ray attachment like their HD-DVD attachment.
If Blu-ray fails, i don't see Sony doing the same however.

That's not how split discs work. The thing that takes up the most space on the discs are pointless CG screens that could be done with the in game graphics. You could most likely put the entire game on one CD with about half of the CG movies. Then put it again on a second disc with the other half of CG Movies. So you won't have to change discs when you go into new cities. You'll just have to switch discs when you get through the first half of CG movies. This is how it's always been... anyone who's actually played a JRPG in the days of split discs would know this. That said. If you NEED Final Fantasy 13, I don't see why you'd risk it with a 360. Though i'd still wait on a PS3. Since i'd be surprised if it was out before 2009. |
Multiple good points in this response. First, Let's dispense with CG in next-gen games. The hardware is good enough to render some pretty great stuff. Spend time on development of the game instead of movies. Disk changes are a thing of the past for the most part then.
As far as Final Fantasy XIII, I'd bet on holidays 2008. Amazon was taking preorders for Nov 2008 but I don't know if they still are. If you are looking at buying a PS3 only for that game, just skip a next gen console until then. You could get a 360 now, though, play some games, AND get a PS3 late next year assuming FFXIII doesn't find it's way to the 360. I know it is highly unlikely but things change... And that's more than a year away....
If you want a 360 SOOOOOOOOOO much, but you're afraid of the red rings, just buy a warranty. If memory serves, it's about the price of one game and it lasts a pretty darn long time.
I previously had only a Wii, then I bought a 360 and Bioshock, and I plan to buy the $400 PS3 as of release in the states.
The 360 with Halo 3 and Live is really addictive, and there are a lot of quality games on the 360. If you do want a PS3 too, I suggest you start saving up right after you buy your 360.

I thought Xbox 360's came with a free 3 year wearranty now, assuming oyu save the recit?
^^ I think montana is talking about one of those extra warranty were you get to excange the console for a new one if something goes wrong so you don´t need MS to fix it while you have nothing to game with...

I have a Wii too, bought it mainly for Fire Emblem.
My favorite genre is RPG too, J-RPG to be more specific. W-RPG are boring to me.
The Wii will get most JRPG it seems, so you already have made the good choice.
The Wii already have more JRPG than the other two competitors, and will leave them behind in the next 6 months in amount of JRPG it is going to get.
But still, you will miss some other JRPG that are not coming to the Wii and seem good (for now, FFXIII and Shiro Kishi Monogatari).
I'm planning on buying another console too (first time I'll do that), and if you prefer JRPG, there's not even the need to think, go get a PS3. That's what I will do anyway.
The only exclusives JRPG that the XB360 has comes from Mistwalker. This studio is a train wreck since the time they decided to go exclusive with MS for their first games. The only thing they had going for them was the big names Sakaguchi and Uematsu. But Sakaguchi just destroyed its studio reputation.
All of their games are flopping now, partly because they are not so good. Blue Dragon is barely average, except for those that just discovered JRPG perhaps (the veteran JRPG players all say DQ VIII is far better). ASH is barely average too. And Trusty Bell (Namco Bandai) is coming to the PS3, enhanced.
Of course, JRPG sell the most in Japan, so japanese devs will test the success in Japan before trying a release outside Japan. We had confirmation of what I predicted: XB360 demographic is not for JRPG, most will flop. Doesn't sound good for the future. Especially since MS has to pay to get JRPG on its console, which will never sell well, given its poor market in Japan.
What's good with the PS3, is that even if a JRPG doesn't do well in Japan and is never released outside of Japan, if you understand japanese, you can just import them without the need to mod your console. For me, this is a killer app, especially for JRPG.
A game like Agarest Senki that flopped, has a tiny chance to ever be released outside of Japan, but you can still play it (providing you understand japanese) if the game suits you.
If you like W-RPG too, the choice is harder then, and I can't help you.
And if you like shooters and racers, the XB360 seems like the best choice. As MS stats showed, the most played games on the XBox Live for the year are all shooters, and I think there were one racer.
It's a shooter fan console, despite people wanting to make you believe the contrary.
It's all about the games. What would you prefer? Halo, PGR, NG2, Fable 2, and Mass Effect? Or MGS4, FFXIII, Uncharted, GoW, and GT5?

Your completely overstepping the line here, completely, again quanity can be a good thing (wii) but quality can be as well, in terms of quality, id like to see a Wii JRPG outdo the best on ps3 and 360. You went way over the line with Mistwaker, Your baseing it off a game developed by ARTOON of all people, we will see with Lost Odyssey,if this fails, you start to even CONSIDER this statement, right now your bashing one of the greatest game developers ever, so enough is enough. Has to pay to get JRPGS? For some yes, just like all the consoles no less. It seems you dont understand, that MS MADE feel plus themselfs (makers of Lost Odyssey) and paid alot of former square employees to come over and help develop this game, it shows that yes MS is paying for it, but everyone does, and MS is not just snatching them up,they are trying themselves.
With regard to Call of Duty 4 having an ultra short single player campaign, I guess it may well have been due to the size limitations of DVD on the XBox 360, one of various limitations multi-platform game designers will have to take into consideration-Mike B

Bet with Harvey Birdman that Lost Odyssey will sell more then Blue dragon did.@ookaze
Do some research actually do a lot of research. Your actually completely wrong at least in respect to what is coming to North America. The Wii actually has the fewest RPG titles. The 360 actually has the most. I have provided the lists to other posters in the past, but quite frankly its getting tedious to do so. Just do it for yourself just go to IGN pick a console, and go into game profiles. They sort the games by genres.
Basically the Wii is a barren wasteland when it comes to RPGs. Be it action, western, or eastern. The list is simply pathetic. Even the PS3 does a far better job. Kind of strange, but thats what their list says. Are you working off of a different list, or do you see revisions that need to be done to their lists.

Well the way he pounced on the 360, could only mean one thing....
