I just wanna brag a bit about my predictions. From the betting thread:
Dragon Quest IX
First week: 2,4 million
Lifetime: 3,6-4 million
Hardware: No idea, 130 k ?
Monster Hunter 3
First week: 500-600 k
Lifetime: 1,1-1,2 million (at least I hope it will be a millionseller)
Hardware: 90 k
Wii Sport Resort
First week: 250-300 k
Lifetime: 3,5 million
Hardware: 30 k
I did very good at the first week on both hardware and software didn´t I? =) I was a bit low on Wii Sports Resort software and a bit high on Wii hardware, though more close than most. Hardware for Dragon Quest and Monster Hunter weeks I was almost spot on he he.
Lifetime sales remain to be seen, I´ll probably will be too low on Dragon Quest and hopefully Monster Hunter ha ha.
damn i predicted first week 580k and 100k harware...
here's my full predictions:
MH3:
FW= 580k
LT=1.8 mil
HW= 100k
DQIX:
FW=2.4 mil
LT=4.4 mil
HW=175k
WSR:
FW=250k
LT=2.5 mil
HW= 35k(i think hardware will be more sustained than just having one big push)
Spot on for MH3 :D
It'll be interesting to see where Wii hardware sales level out in a few weeks time. I'm hoping it'll stick around 30-40k weekly till Wii Fit Plus and NSMB Wii hit.
Great opening week for Monster Hunter 3, and congrats to Capcom for what will hopefully be a big hit in Japan and the rest of the world. Nice to see Wii/DS weekly sales back at high levels, though the important thing is seeing how long these rises are maintained.
Perhaps the greater interest in Wii and DS from new users will see older titles making it back into the charts?

Very happy with both Monster Hunter 3 and Dragon Quest IX! And Wii Sports Resort, for that matter. Dragon Quest IX looks to be a shoe-in for the highest-selling DQ in Japan, Monster Hunter 3 completely smashed the previous home console iterations and Wii Sports Resort is showing very steady legs.
Perhaps the revitialization of Japan's gaming scene has begun?
It has been a long, long time since Wii has outsold DS in Japan. It looks like the last time was the week ending June 29 2008

This.
I would even make the prediction, that PS3 wont sell as much after the month of the next pricecut, as Wii in the month after MH3 and WSR.

| RPG said: Well let's not get carried away, it is still 417k away from 1 million and this is not a PSP MH title. That said MH3 numbers completely tore apart sales of the PS2 games since the franchise has become huge since then. If all goes well for MH3 is should pass 1 million a month from now but I don't expect anything more than 1.2 million lifetime unless it gets some of the PSP MH legs which is possible. It will be the first HOME console of this generation to pass 1 million and the highest 3rd party seller. Will be beaten by FFXIII this year but those two will be far ahead of the other 3rd party sellers. *Waits to be called a fanboy because people cannot handle the truth* >_> |
*sigh*
Here you go again... It will sell a million dude, and once in for all - no one claimed it would be as big of a success as the PSP version. We only said it would be a big success for the WII. And now you're bringin' up FFXIII... you'll do anything to discount the success of this game!
And already, it has been.
Wii hardware = Wowza! Great boost! Let's see how it does in MC and in the weeks to come!
Honestly RPG, I think it would be wise to sell how MH3 sales hold up before predicting FFXIII well sell more units. The FF franchise is very front loaded in Japan. I have no doubt that it will have higher first week sales numbers but MH titles tend to have legs.

Waiting for someone to find a negative thing to say about the Wii's and MH3's performance.
Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:
If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.
If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.
