Halo Wars did "ok" if you are comparing it to the Halo FPS's. However, it's the best selling RTS on a console right now, and that elevates it above just being "ok." Everyone knows FPS will always be a more popular genre than RTS.

Honestly Halo Wars sold badly and it proved that the Halo name ain't so strong that millions will buy anything with 'Halo' in it.

Because we need to remember that it was also a decent game.

Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars on the X360 got the same Metacritic as Halo Wars (82%) and sold 550,000 copies. Halo Wars hasn't hit 1.4 million yet. So less than 1 million sales for this solid game is due to the Halo factor.

If you really think Microsoft was expecting it to sell as much as the FPS Halos, you are deluding yourself. Command and Conquer is one of the premier RTS franchises, and Halo Wars selling about a million more copies than that is bad? Maybe I am missing the logic here...

Stop joking. No one thought Halo Wars would do Halo 3 numbers - Halo 3 will reach 11-12 million lifetime and Halo 3: ODST over 6 million. But there's a middle ground too.

1.4 million Halo Wars compared to 550,000 C&C3 may sound okay, and it still is selling, but to call it good sales I demand almost 3 million.

You're not going to get an RTS to sell 3 million copies. So what you're really saying is that the RTS genre is incapable of selling well. That doesn't mean that Halo Wars isn't selling well for an RTS, which is exactly what I said earlier. *rolls eyes* Get off my back already.

Starcraft has sold about 10 million I believe, with 4 million being sold in Korea alone. RTS games are capable of selling well. But of course, It's Starcraft, and it's on PC.

I think the Halo name should have moved a few more copies though.

Not even a Mario RTS would sell 3 million copies *rolls eyes with themanwithnoname*

Product differentiation. Massively important.

Simple.

Why not? It has been done before.

In regards to RTS titles, I don't see where they work well on consoles at this point. Halo Wars is one of the best (EndWars is its own unique animal) as far as execution goes, but is very toned down. Tone down even more than CivRev is actually.

Anyhow, I will get back to the exclusives question. When the top high def GAMES are multiconsole, then are exclusives as important? If not, then won't people reach for the least expensive way to play them, which is where the 360 has an edge over the PS3? When it comes down to top titles, which drive sales, doesn't the lowest price point matter? So, the PS3 can do a LOT of good exclusives, but they don't tip the sales of the PS3 in their favor. Even if there is a price cut, if the PS3 is STILL more expensive, then how much of a difference is it going to make? I am saying this with the top titles being in the same class quality-wise, which is true across about all the top multiplatform titles.

Again, the question is top games being multiplatform.

The best quality games are usually exclusive like Halo, Gears of War, Killzone 2, Uncharted etc. And multiplats usually offer less quality (there are exceptions).

I think there are more quality multiplat HD games than there are exclusives.

This generation's exclusives are HD exclusives, PC exclusives, or Wii exclusives.

The two HD consoles together have a big enough marketshare to make their multiplatform games the most important ones, but not big enough to support them as exclusives.

Also, they are so similar, that there is simply no excuse for a game to be exclusive. It's justified that they don't port HD games to the Wii, and motion controlled games to the HD consoles, but the only reason for a game being ps3, or x360 exclusive is first party interest, and gamers don't like when their games are sabotaged by business interests.

Oh i like this answer the best!

Well said.

You seem confused and your sales analyzing skills are poor.

At the end of the day Halo Wars is an RTS and that hindered its sales, it did well for an RTS.
