Forums - Gaming - How important are exclusives when the top games are multiconsole?

I miss when there were more exclusive games for consoles than there were multiplat, like in the 16 or 32-bit era (the playstation and N64 libraries were very different). It made console libraries much more interresting compared to other console libraries and it made having a specific console more fun.

How did owning only a Nintendo and not being able to play any Sega games make it MORE FUN?  lol

Halo Wars did "ok" if you are comparing it to the Halo FPS's. However, it's the best selling RTS on a console right now, and that elevates it above just being "ok." Everyone knows FPS will always be a more popular genre than RTS.

themanwithnoname's law: As an America's sales or NPD thread grows longer, the probabilty of the comment "America = World" [sarcasticly] being made approaches 1.

Honestly Halo Wars sold badly and it proved that the Halo name ain't so strong that millions will buy anything with 'Halo' in it.

Because we need to remember that it was also a decent game.

Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars on the X360 got the same Metacritic as Halo Wars (82%) and sold 550,000 copies. Halo Wars hasn't hit 1.4 million yet. So less than 1 million sales for this solid game is due to the Halo factor.

If you really think Microsoft was expecting it to sell as much as the FPS Halos, you are deluding yourself. Command and Conquer is one of the premier RTS franchises, and Halo Wars selling about a million more copies than that is bad? Maybe I am missing the logic here...

The console meant more. You bought the console with the library that appealed to you the most. Not because of the exclusies (since most games was exclusives) Libraries had more different styles and were not basically the same like today's libraries *glares at PS360*

Another possibilty is to do like I do now, own both Nintendo and a Sega consoles and enjoy their differences :D

The top HD games are multiconsole, for the most part, but that does not make the top games of the generation overall, by a long-shot.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Actually in terms of quality the top HD games are exclusive, in terms of popularity obviously multi console games takes that.

I think the HD games of the highest quality has been the games like Oblivion, Fallout 3, and Bioshock. So in terms of quality, there are some multiplat in the top as well.

Stop joking. No one thought Halo Wars would do Halo 3 numbers - Halo 3 will reach 11-12 million lifetime and Halo 3: ODST over 6 million. But there's a middle ground too.

1.4 million Halo Wars compared to 550,000 C&C3 may sound okay, and it still is selling, but to call it good sales I demand almost 3 million.

You're not going to get an RTS to sell 3 million copies. So what you're really saying is that the RTS genre is incapable of selling well. That doesn't mean that Halo Wars isn't selling well for an RTS, which is exactly what I said earlier. *rolls eyes* Get off my back already.
