The console meant more. You bought the console with the library that appealed to you the most. Not because of the exclusies (since most games was exclusives) Libraries had more different styles and were not basically the same like today's libraries *glares at PS360*

Another possibilty is to do like I do now, own both Nintendo and a Sega consoles and enjoy their differences :D
