If all this is true, then sony should be amassing huge numbers of consoles for the upcoming holiday, and wouldn't we know about that somehow?

Not fats. We have been hearing talk of components being built for 1m consoles a month over the holidays

the more i read about all those 'secrets' from sony, the more i think they're driving one hell of a viral marketing campaign through internet forums ^^

If that were true it would mean sony has some kind of marketing skill left.... you know the more i think about it you could be right its moving just slowly enough to manipulated... though if they dont right the rumor with leaks soon it will back fire..... i still say this kinda thing needs to stop now

I think they'd be stupid not to launch GT5 this year.

However, to launch GT PSP and GT5 at the same time seems a bit weird... I think GT PSP will be totally overshadowed.

GT is one of those franchises that can release at any time and have big sales so a holiday release is not needed but all GT games bar GT3 have released in December in Japan. If GT mobile is anything to go by GT5 will release simultaneously WW.

GT Mobile will have inter-connectivity with GT5 so if anything both games will help each other in terms of sales. You can transfer vehicles between both games so both should help each other. At the end of the day it's GT and people can downplay the games as much as they want but GT Mobile and GT5 will sell in the millions so meh. The GT franchise will keep going which is what I care about.

even my dad wants to buy a ps3 once this game releases....
he just loves it.

GT5 + Motorstorm: Pacific Rift = Sony as master of racng games. IMO at least. :)

And ModNationRacers

Or Wipeout!

ps

when/where's this Gamescon thingy?

WipEout is great as welll

GamesCom (I thought it was gamescoN), is in Cologne, Germany, between August 19th and 23. The SCEE press conference is on August 18th 6-9pm I assume local time

I refuse to get excited about Sony's conference at Gamescon, but

PS3 Slim announcement, $100 pricecut, GT5 2009 Release date, and a fully fleshed out motion control demo with the controls implemented in Demon Souls and Killzone 2 would be too much.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

Hopefully they capitalize on holiday sales. In conjunction with a price cut and slim PS3, this holiday could be massive for Sony.

How does one million a month (produced I presume) figure into the number totals? When does the increased numbers of consoles begin? I can't really place the "one million in a month" number, so a comparison with previous numbers (produced / sold) of the Wii for example, would be nice.
