Let me start by saying that i praise the first xbox and for me it was the best console last gen

simply because games looked and felt better on it than ps2 and gamecube however,

Alot of people on this website keep saying that the xbox took second place and thats not exactly true.

 

xbox 24m

gamecube 21.74

 

Now clearly the xbox sold 2m more than the gamecube but it lost 6billion while the gamecube made profit not just on their consoles but on their games aswell. 

The xbox is the only console last gen that lost way more money than they made,

and that is why i believe its in third place.

Not bad logic, but would the 360 be as popular as it is if the Xbox hadn't set the stage first? MS has $$ to burn and they will keep investing in something if they believe it has a future in their overall portfolio. I don't know if the Xbox division has turned a profit since the launch of the original, yet.

Well if your going by money made, Nintendo made more money than anyone else. (Dunno how much came from the GBA though..)




But since it's sales.... it's in third. That's it.

... That sort of thing is not usually counted by who profited. Yes, the Xbox had a very Pyrrhic victory, but it did in fact outsell the Gamecube, and is therefore considered to have earned second place.

MS made a big profit this gen more than they lost. They are building a fanbase this gen so they can be first next gen. MS is highly successful. Finally Xbox beat Gamecube last gen so deal with it.

I consider the Gamecube the 2nd best console last generation. But in terms of sales it is in third. I will admit I thought the first Xbox was....well....shit.
