Forums - Sales - How many times til DS pass ps2 and best selling video game?

Same life frame, it is dominating everything... just like Wii.

And it is the same gen, just a different console released for that Gen, hence imo its sales should have been counted seperately and not with the MegaDrive or Genesis. And id just like to add too, that the Mega-CD was actually counted seperately too. At 6million according to Wiki.

The entire DS install base cant play some games released on DSi, hence imo DSi should be a seperate platform.

Although, Carl does make sense. DS sales should include DSi sales, well, because Nintendo isn't counting it as a new console. It's just an update, just like the PSP Go, Sony isn't counting it as a brand new console. And they're both selling them along with the old PSP's and DS's.

Just my two cents. ^_^

we should also discount several million PS3's that have PS2 backwards compatibility because it can't be done on other PS3 systems.

That means Wii has 50% market share!

I hope you realize how stupid it is to not consider dsi as ds sales.

We are counting sales by generation. That's why the PS2 isnt on the front page of this site. DS and DSi are part of the same gen and there are very few games that can be played only on the DSi. So we cannot count them seperately just because of that.

Whatever thats your point of view, but I hope you realize that most of people (hopefully)doesnt think like you.

Not really, seeing that all PS3 games still work on each PS3 system... which is my actual point about DS + DSi.

You are trying to mix my words around now, and its showing that you have no counter arguement when i say games are released for DSi, what cant be played on DS/DSlite.

I appologise for insulting the almighty Nintendo in this thread. Next time il be sure to bring a bunker when i voice my opinion about something Nintendo.

By the end of next year.

Although personally, i think the DS/DSlite + DSi should be counted seperately.

I don't think so, I know many people who already own a DS is buying an DSi, but, the same happened with PS2 and PS2 Slim. DSi isn't a new console, is just and hardware upgrade.

Im not talking about just because its a re-model.

I mean because DSi has/will have DSi exclusives what cant be played on DS/DSlite.

As did GameBoy Color, yet those hardware sales are included with the original GameBoy sales.

I think end of next year is as good a guess as any, on topic.

Which they shouldnt have been, because Gameboy owners couldnt play all the games then released for the system.

The way i see it, if a platform has its own exclusive games... it is a seperate platform.

Even Wikipedia has DSi sales seperate.

I agree with carl. The dsi is really a ds2 to be honest. It has extra memory and everything. Thats like i dont know a psp comming out with like 2x faster CPU and 2x stronger GPU. and way extra memory. Then games get deveolped for this new psp that dont work on other psps.

So really by all you people the ps1 and ps2 and ps3 ps2/BC version's should all be counted as one console because the only difference between then is the graphics card, memory, cpu.

Nobody's perfect. I aint nobody!!!

The PS2 Slim is not the PS2, hence the PS2 never sold 120 million units.

The Slim PS2 didn't have Slim PS2 exclusives. And PS2 is actually at ~135m + sales.

@Asriel.

I just did a quick check on the sales forum and i got Media Create who do them seperately, and it appears from this thread that GfK also count them seperate.

And so does Famitsu

Atma.. Vgchartz does not have all of the numbers for the PS2.. ioi has said this, and it even says it on the bottom of the PS2 comparison chart.

As of march 138 million PS2's have been shipped to retailers, 135M would be a good number to estimate its actual consumer sales..

As for the DS passing the PS2, it still has another 30 million before catching the PS2's current numbers, and Im sure the PS2 wont stay at 135M forever..

Its still probable, but not anytime soon.

So... some 360 models have HDMI port, others don't. Should they be counted separately?

Wow, seriously do you people read?

I said my reason for thinking they should be counted seperately was because DSi has DSi exclusives.

Do 360s with HDMI have "360 HDMI exclusives"? No.

Because you don't want the DS to pass PS2 sales we should count them seperatley? Come on. Just accept the fact that the DS is the best selling console ever and you'll be fine.

P.S. We are counting sales to consumers not to retailers here so don't try to change the rules.

It's really simple and Carl makes sense. If Ps2 slim had games you can ONLY PLAY on the slim it would be a whole new console since Ps2 fat owners would have to upgrade to play said games. Same thing is being said for DS/DSI. There is DSI games exclusive that you can't play on original DS which means it's technically a new console. If PsP GO only offers downloadable games for PsP Go (which they aren't) it would be a new console as well.

Either way I have no opinion on wether or not the sales of ds should be seperated. My opinions on DS outselling a home console are another story though.

The PSP Go example is a bit odd. If I can't play the games on UMD with PSP Go, shouldn't it be counted differently from PSP?

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.
