Forums - Sales - 360 over-tracked!!!!!!

ioi said:

Microsoft are depleting stocks to make way for new SKUs - the numbers are spot on (that said we made some adjustments to both PS3 and 360 in "other others" due to some new info we've had - basically PS3 doing a little better than we had, 360 doing a little worse, we're talking ~100k each way over the last 12 months).

Our figures in the US, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Australia and Japan are totally in line with all other tracking services - 400k in "stock" at the end of June does seem a little low but I think it is real and indicative of MS clearing the channel...

Oh seen. I can understand that. We should be seeing something similar with Sony soon if the PSlim is true.

Sony's figures are coming July 30th, so from them we should be able to see if Sony have a new SKU planned for the summer.

Oh noez :\

It's just that simple.

You guys are off a little. I'l paste a bit of what Zucas said in the news report, hope he doesn't mind - 'Puts 360 at 31.4 million units shipped at the end of June 30, 2009. At the week ending June 27, 2009 we have 360 sales at 31.12 million. It is quite possible we have over tracked the 360.'

Taz we are very much aware of this.

why hasn't serious-frusting been banned???

Sad that his incessant dissemination of lies go unchecked.

Yup, I suspected the Xbox 360 was over-tracked. The numbers were too good to be true. Now, how overtracked depends on when the SKU changeover happens. However the Arcade changeover happened just recently and the Premium and Elite changeover is about to happen, so its up in the air as to whats actually happening and therefore we should wait for more data.

We don't really know the shipping status of the new Arcade SKU and how much stock has come back into the channel.

We don't really know when the SKU changeover is going to happen, the nearer it is to now the less the console is likely to be overtracked by.

We also don't know what goals Microsoft has with regards to shipment numbers. We've seen them pad shipments and stuff the channel to make their numbers look good, are they holding backsomewhat before the end of the financial year to ensure that next year will continue to show growth?

In the end the +/- 10% really doesn't matter. I don't understand the emotional attachment to the numbers, if the numbers are systematically wrong and people are desperate to hide the fact then when the numbers finally get adjusted the impact will be larger. Don't pray to the numbers, pray for the console I say!

ioi himself came into the thread and said 360 was overtracked.

I think you owe someone an appology...

Oh yeah the Xbox 360 software numbers are undertracked by a little over 30M!

Anyway another reason to add to the above is that retailers are more fiscally conservative, which means they order fewer consoles and hold fewer in stock due to the reccession which really only hit us at the end of last year and the start of this year, remember?

It also helps to explain why certain Wii games may have struggled first week as retailers ordered too few copies.
