Isnt Pokemon a pet game?

In the same genre as say... Petz?

What makes you think it's in the same genre as petz!?

It was a joke

But seriously though, Pokemon COULD be counted as a pet game.

Oh

It could be the sadistic version of a pet game...

Because people fear it. Sorta like how all of Nintendo's Wii games "don't count" (unless they fail to pass an imaginary number barrier, in which case they become the shining beacon of anti-Wii arguments).

Personally I don't understand the vicious denial. When I finally got around to playing Pokemon I was surprised at how much more of a Japanese RPG it is than most of the stuff coming out now.

Random Battles - check
Grinding - check
Silly storyline - check
Customization - check

i dont generally consider RPGs made in japan JRPGs

Because pokemon is for the kids and stuff!!!....*hides in the corner, playing his copy of Pokemon Platinum in shame*

Nah, seriously, pokemon is cool xD It launched the "capture and train an X amount of monsters" genre that many games have tried to emulate without the success of pokemon, like Azure Dreams, Digimon, Dokapon, Monster Trainer Advance and some other games.
The only game to actually gaining some recognition in the same genre has been the Monster Hunter series, but even then, Pokemon is still King of The Hill.
