Super Nintendo Had Nintendo Classics and third party classics.

PS1 had only third party classics.

Super Nintendo wins.

thats an interesting way to look at it.

i also think the ps1 may had to do a little bit with how games are today.. and in a bad way. i read earlier in another post that somebody said games today are 30% gameplay and 70% cinematics whereas games in the 80s and early 90s were 100% gameplay. i happen to agree, and i think playstation had something to do with that.

That's what happens when an industry grows big and big companies come and tries to take over. Ever since the Playstations video games has been going through som sort of hollywoodization where everything becomes prettier bigger, more innovative and so on. Games become treated like blockbuster movies. And most important of all, craftmansship mean much less. Or, at least that's just what I fell has happened.

For me... PS1.

I was never a big 2D gamer

SNES.

SNES. A good deal of the PS1 hits were just sequels to breakout SNES games anyway. Combine Sony's lack of real first party classic's on PS1 and it isn't a contest. SNES versus the PS2 would be a more fair match up. That's when Sony started to spread its wings as 1st party game maker.

SNES was a great console. However, the Playstation took gaming to another level into a new era. Playstation 1 was the first console to have video games run on a CD. It is also the same console that would put the final fantasy series into a higher level than the previous game did on the nintendo consoles. Playstation, during its time, establish some very popular IPs such as Crash Bandicoot, Spyro and Tomb Raider.

Super Nintendo took gaming to a new level too. It was the first 16-bit Nintendo system and the first to use mode7 graphics!

As for first CD-based, Sega Saturn sais hai.

playstation isnt responsible for crash, spyro and tomb raider. those could have just as easily been on sega saturn or nintendo 64. i like the playstation, but sony just wasnt very creative. it was more like they were leeching off of nintendo's success.

The PC Engine CD came out in Japan in 1988 and the us in 1989. The Sega CD, Neo Geo CD, and Philips CD-i also predate the PS1. Tomb Raider 1 started off as Sega Saturn exclusive. It later became multiplatform. In fact Sony paid Eidos not to release Tomb Raider 2 on Saturn. Spyro and Crash were Universal Interactive IPs that Sony paid exclusivity for.

Oh, I always thought PSone was the first. Sorry, my fault. I never played the Playstation that much anyways. I only played it at friends homes. I had the SNES and I enjoyed it.
