Forums - Nintendo - Slants in NMH series leaving the Wii announcements

For those who have not heard, it has been reported that No More Heroes 2 will be the last installment on the Wii (http://news.vgchartz.com/news.php?id=4269).  The original came from an Goichi Suda published in Edge magazine. The exact quote is:

“I think ['No More Heroes 2'] is the last ‘NMH’ that is going to be developed on the Wii. To expand ‘NMH’ to new possibilities, we need a new platform. Wii is a great platform, but we’ve done everything we can with it now.”

(*Also, please note that Suda says "I think" rather than "It will be" -- although I don't know if this is something "Lost in Translation" or intentionally vague.")

Kotaku (http://kotaku.com/5313452/no-more-no-more-heroes-for-the-wii#pager) speculates it is going to an HD console because it would sell better. (It should be noted that one of the first posters reminds Kotaku that the first NMH game is Suda 51's best seller ever).

"While disappointing news for Wii owners, it is a move that makes sound business sense. Despite an excellent reception, the first No More Heroes didn't exactly fly off store shelves. One would imagine that a mature title with the charm of NMH would do amazingly well on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, or even the iPhone."

Meanwhile, the MTV multiplayer blog (http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2009/07/13/future-no-more-heroes-games-wont-be-on-wii/) speculates that timing and console releases may be at play here.  (And ironically, the MTV article was the source for the Kotaku note).

While this is certainly a bummer for Nintendo fans, consider what he’s saying. Planned for release in 2010, “No More Heroes 2″ will release on the Wii. So by the time another “NMH” installment rolls around we may very well see another Nintendo platform in the works. WiiHD, perhaps? Seems that Suda isn’t ruling out the potential for “NMH” to be on a Nintendo platform, just this Nintendo platform.

Funny how one report spins this while another tries to explore all possibilities.

PS -- I cannot find the Edge article on-line.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

He improved it. Asbel looked way too pissed off. Most people from Tales of Graces seem to look pissed off.

OT: Yeah, right now it's anyone's guess. But Suda doesn't strike me like the kind of guy who'd ignore his fanbase and release a new installment on a completely different console.

It's pretty funny how much speculation is going in to the third installment of a series when the second installment is still a year off.

We don't even know if there's going to be a No More Heroes 3!

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

NMH3 Launch title Wii2.

Ask stefl1504 for a sig, even if you don't need one.

Wii HD? 2010? why?

Maybe he will make a DS game?

I LOVE ICELAND!

What does the DS have the the Wii already doesn't...? two screens doesn't seem too useful either...

It is incredibly cost-efficient for developers and, like you said two screens and a different control scheme. Maybe he wants to make NMH a big franchise and is looking at the massive DS userbase.

Suda expressed interest in Natal... so... I say X360. In the way he makes his games (heavy art emphasis )... he does not hope for big multi-million franchises. For this guy, it's about the prduct itself, it seems.
