Forums - Nintendo - Soulbazer - why no remakes?

"Chrono Trigger is from Square also."

I was responding to a comment that it was getting neglected as well.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

@Darc Requiem: Arent Actraiser and Ogre Battle on VC already?

Yes, and all of you should buy both of them.

They should also bring Robotrek to VC soon.

Ogre Battle was really good. Though since I am not really into SRPGs, I think I will pass.

With Actraiser, I somehow liked the second one better - even without the world building aspects.

Funny, I just played Soulblazer on my SNES emulator yesterday and this thread pops up xD I'm on Leo's Lab, just before the Giant Robot boss. The game is really great, and it was such a good beginning to a great saga with soulblazer/illusion of time/terranigma.

The thing is SE will never re-release this game, it isn't that well know even for the people of the SNES generation, and they know that it wouldn't be profitable for them, and that's what SE has become this past years, just a money-caring company.

It's a little more complicated than "lol moniez" (especially since any business that isn't "money-caring" is stupid).

You may wonder why Square Enix can churn ou Final Fantasy games and remakes on the DS while old Enix franchises like Actraiser, E.V.O. and Soul Blazer disappear. Besides Square's franchises being more recognizable, it's the fact that Square and Enix worked very differently.

Enix didn't have its own inhouse developers. Games like Soul Blazer were made by independent teams like Quintet that were contracted by Enix. So if they want to remake it...who do they give it to? Square has its own teams so they can easily shift their franchises around, Enix would either have to get in contact with the original developers (who may not even want to revisit their old projects) or clear out Square's queue of games that are arguably better ventures just to revive old dead franchises. Now if Enix really wanted to they could make this happen and I remember them talking about maybe doing a new Actraiser back when MLaaK came out, but it's not as simple as toplay the blame game.

You have valid points, but I have to counter just one thing that you pointed out. I don't think that it comes down to the fact that Enix doesn't have the availability that Square has in contacting the original developers, and i'm going to give you the example of the Lufia saga.

Lufia, to me is one of the best RPG sagas, and Lufia 2 is the best RPG ever made, to me, and, like soul blazer, E.V.O, actraiser, ogre battle, and many more, is one of the trully lacking RPG's that need a re-release or remake, be it to the wii store, or any other format available. Now, why isn't it out then? Nintendo is the original publisher of the games, so a wii re-release isn't out of the question, Natsume, which owned Neverland, the actual developers of the game, is still around, making endless variations of the Harvest Moon saga, and most of the developers from Neverland actually moved to Natsume. So why is it that a Lufia re-release hasn't come or isn't even being planned?
It's because it wouldn't be profitable for Nintendo and for Natsume as well. Lufia never was a real popular saga, even at that time, just like the case with Soul Blazer/Illusion of Time/Terranigma, it was more of a niche, really difficult Turn Based RPG with even tougher puzzles, so that wouldn't cater to a really large group of nowadays gamers. So you see, it's not about playing the blame game, because I believe that every company is based on "money-caring" type of business, even if it doesn't show to the outside, it's all about what would be profitable in the current gaming scenario and what it wouldn't be profitable.

Nintendo didn't publish Lufia, Natsume did, and Taito owns the franchise. Square Enix owns Taito now, which means that Square Enix actually owns the Lufia/Estpolis IP, but what happens to it us up to Taito because SE lets them keep free reign of their franchises. And Taito did try to revive the series with Ruins of Lore, they actually developed it themselves instead of giving it to Neverland. I'm guessing it didn't get a well enough response for them to bother trying to bring back the other games.

Ah Robotrek.  That was a fun little known game.

@ClaudeLv250

You're right, I stand corrected. I really thought that Lufia was owned by Nintendo, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Lufia: The Ruins of Lore for the GBA had almost the same reception as the SNES games had. I personally think that the story could be different if they had released Lufia: The Ruin Chaser for the PS instead of Lufia: The Legend Returns for the GBC, being that the PSX had the main JRPG crowd of that time, it would have made a bigger impact and garner more fans to the series, IMO, shame that the original developer for Ruin Chaser went out of business.

Edit - Actually only the first Lufia was the only one published only by Taito, Lufia II was published both by Taito, Nintendo and Natsume, so in theory, Nintendo still owns the rights to Lufia 2, if they didn't sell them to Taito.

Why do you ask for a remake for a game WHEN YOU CAN'T EVEN SPELL IT RIGHT.... Soulbazer... in your thread title... >_>

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

It sure would be nice if SE would release never-released-in-the-USA games like Terranigma and Seiken Densetsu 3. Unfortunately, we're sure to get yet another Final Fantasy remake instead.
